Meet Josh, a Radiographer in the RMH Medical Imaging department 🩻.

When he first joined the RMH, he was motivated by the chance to train in various areas of medical imaging. This opportunity allowed him to explore his passions and pursue what he truly loves 💙

The RMH Medical Imaging department is dedicated to providing top-quality services to all patients and referrers. They offer a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic imaging services to patients at the RMH in Parkville, Royal Park, Nuclear Medicine, and RMH Private Imaging.

If you, like Josh, want to broaden your experience and work alongside a multidisciplinary team of professionals, visit our Careers Hub and search for ‘medical imaging’ to discover available opportunities 👉🏼 https://careers.thermh.org.au/

Shout out to the RMH Respiratory Medicine, Sleep Disorders and General Medicine team at 5 South West 🤗💙🎉

Sandra, a patient of this ward, shared that “everyone is so friendly, compassionate and while there are a lot of patients, everyone is treated as though they are the only one there - making the experience less stressful.“

Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and support staff for the great work you do at 5SW!

You can provide your feedback to our Consumer Liaison team at https://www.thermh.org.au/your-care/providing-feedback

Your feedback means the world 🌏 not just to us, but to the incredible healthcare workers of the RMH who inspire us every day.

This heartfelt message came from a fan of Emergency, and we passed it straight to Kelsey, our amazing Clinical Nurse Educator in the Emergency Department.

Healthcare can be tough, but messages like this remind our staff that their work truly matters. 💪✨

This week is National Diabetes Week, and we join patients and medical practitioners in raising awareness on the impacts and management of the disease 💉

Diabetes is the leading health challenge in Australia, affecting approximately 30% of hospital patients. Currently, around 135,000 Australians live with Type 1 Diabetes, requiring daily insulin injections and frequent finger pricks. While there is no cure yet, numerous global trials are underway 🔬

This year’s theme is “A Future Where Diabetes Can Do No Harm”, which encourages patients to know they can live a fulfilling life while managing their health condition… just look at Hannah, on slide 4, having the time of her life in Nepal 🏔️

To commemorate the date, the RMH Diabetes Department hosted educational sessions, ran competitions, and shared valuable knowledge with both patients and staff (see them in the 5th slide!).

The team also dispelled common myths—for example, people with diabetes can eat sugar—and encouraged everyone to be aware of the key symptoms: extreme thirst, tiredness, weight loss, and increased urination.

You know the drill, if you are experiencing any symptoms, consult your medical practitioner 🩺

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for Run Melbourne!

We had 62 fundraisers, a big group of RMH staff, friends and former patients pounding the pavement, and raised an incredible $22,500 for Allied Health.

We had many familiar faces swing by our marquee including Dr Michelle, who you might recognise from our TV show Emergency, and who we featured a month ago for her work painting the beautiful mural in the RMH John Cade Mental Health Unit.

Great work everybody 🏃‍♀️💙🏃

Meet Sarah! Sarah’s a First Nations Clinical Nurse Support Officer at the RMH and proud Gunai/Kurnai woman 🙋🏻‍♀️ She was initially influenced to work in health care by her Nana, a woman with a strong and staunch personality who worked as a nurse in the 50s and 60s on the polio wards 🩺

Strength has been a consistent theme in Sarah’s life and is also key to the theme for NAIDOC Week this year: The Next Generation. Strength, Vision, Legacy.

Sarah says that the strength of First Nations people lies in their history, knowledge and community. “It's important that the next generation continues the legacies that have been left to us by our elders and by our old people. Remaining strong in who we are as a group of people and keeping our connections to land, community, culture, and stories.”🗣️

“Being so strong in our culture over so many generations is a call to continuing our legacy into the future.” 💙

Meet Jacob! Jacob’s a proud Ngiyampaa and Barkindji man (Far West New South Wales) who is a registered nurse working with the RMH’s Emergency Department 🏨

As the first healthcare professional in his family, he's part of the next generation leaving their mark in the healthcare sector 🙋🏻‍♂️

"There are well known disparities in health outcomes for Indigenous Australians versus non Indigenous Australians," Jacob reflects, highlighting the challenging realities faced by his community. 🏠

"By having First Nations healthcare workers, like myself, we can help Mob feel at ease, safe and more comfortable to receive the care they need. It's really important to show that we're comfortable, loud and proud of who we are."

For Jacob, the concept of 'Mob looking after Mob' is incredibly important. He advocates for his family and patients to promote their own health literacy and break down barriers to seeking healthcare services.

Thank you, Jacob, for all the work that you do! 💪🏼
