“It’s just a little ramp.”
Wait until you look at it through an OT lens 🧐-- A LOT of OTs will relate to this one!

What looks like a simple home modification in these photos is actually a stack of clinical judgement: safety, mobility, environment, and how the person will use this doorway every single day. That’s the job! Turning “should be fine” into safer, smoother, and more reliable for real-life walking aids, wheels, fatigue, and balance.

Contact us: we provide Occupational Therapy home modification assessments and support funded through NDIS and Support at Home (SAH).

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older Australians and when a fall happens, timing matters.

Falls detection devices are designed to automatically sense a fall and alert others, helping support faster assistance and added peace of mind for individuals and families.

As Occupational Therapists, we often consider falls detection as part of a broader approach to safety, independence, and support at home.

Grip strength matters for daily life, not just hand strength. ✍🏻

In Occupational Therapy, grip strength is one part of a functional assessment because it can affect everyday tasks like dressing (buttons and zips), meal preparation (opening jars, cutting, pouring), and household or community activities (carrying items, using keys or handrails). We consider grip strength alongside things like fatigue, coordination, sensation, pain, and the home environment to better understand safety, effort, and independence in real-world routines.

At Cas Health, our Melbourne-based OTs use functional assessments to help identify practical supports that may reduce strain and improve day-to-day confidence, such as task strategies, assistive technology, and home-based recommendations. If you’re noticing daily tasks becoming harder, we’re here to help.

Meal preparation can feel overwhelming when you’re living with fatigue or low energy BUT small changes can make a big difference.

Occupational Therapists focus on energy conservation, task simplification, and safety to help make everyday activities like cooking more manageable.

These practical tips aim to reduce effort, support independence, and help you save energy for the things that matter most. 💙

This information is general in nature and may not suit everyone. If fatigue is affecting your daily life, an Occupational Therapist can provide personalised strategies to support your needs.

If NDIS planning feels uncertain right now, you’re not imagining it.

Major changes are coming to how NDIS plans are created from mid-2026, and they affect everyone: participants, families, and the professionals who support them.

Here’s what’s been confirmed so far:

From 2026, the NDIA will introduce a new planning model that uses a structured assessment tool called I-CAN to guide funding decisions.
The aim is more consistency, but it also means less discretion in how individual plans are shaped.

At the same time, the appeals system is changing.
The current tribunal that can directly fix underfunded plans is being replaced by one that can only send decisions back for reassessment, not amend them.

Disability advocates are raising serious, evidence-based concerns about what this could mean for people with complex needs, fluctuating conditions, or circumstances that don’t fit neatly into a standardised system.

This isn’t just policy.
It affects safety, stability, independence, and confidence in the future.

If you’ve been feeling unsure about what’s ahead, you’re not alone.
And your voice matters in this conversation.
Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
