What Your Emotional Triggers Are Telling You
Most people see emotional triggers as something to get rid of.
The reaction feels bigger than it should, uncomfortable, and sometimes hard to explain, so the instinct is to push it away or just move on.
But triggers are rarely random.
They’re often pointing to something underneath the surface - for example:
• an old pattern that keeps repeating
• a past experience that hasn’t been fully processed or released
• a belief about yourself or others that’s been sitting there for a long time
That’s why the reaction can feel out of proportion to what’s happening in the moment. It’s not just about now - it’s connected to something earlier.
Dr Joe Dispenzer suggests that 90% of our responses are based in the past, and only 10% is about what is happening in the present.
When you start to look at triggers with curiosity instead of frustration, things begin to shift:
• you understand yourself more clearly
• you can see where the reaction is coming from
• it becomes easier to respond differently to the now situation , rather than repeating the same past cycle
This is a big part of the work we do at Bayside Healthy Living, helping you gently uncover and shift these patterns in a way that feels safe and manageable, freeing you from the past responses makes it easier to deal with today.
You don’t have to keep reacting the same way.
If you’ve noticed the same feelings showing up in certain situations, it might be worth exploring what’s underneath.
