What Your Emotional Triggers Are Telling You

Most people see emotional triggers as something to get rid of.

The reaction feels bigger than it should, uncomfortable, and sometimes hard to explain, so the instinct is to push it away or just move on.

But triggers are rarely random.

They’re often pointing to something underneath the surface - for example:
• an old pattern that keeps repeating
• a past experience that hasn’t been fully processed or released
• a belief about yourself or others that’s been sitting there for a long time

That’s why the reaction can feel out of proportion to what’s happening in the moment. It’s not just about now - it’s connected to something earlier.

Dr Joe Dispenzer suggests that 90% of our responses are based in the past, and only 10% is about what is happening in the present.

When you start to look at triggers with curiosity instead of frustration, things begin to shift:
• you understand yourself more clearly
• you can see where the reaction is coming from
• it becomes easier to respond differently to the now situation , rather than repeating the same past cycle

This is a big part of the work we do at Bayside Healthy Living, helping you gently uncover and shift these patterns in a way that feels safe and manageable, freeing you from the past responses makes it easier to deal with today.

You don’t have to keep reacting the same way.

If you’ve noticed the same feelings showing up in certain situations, it might be worth exploring what’s underneath.

You don't need to fix everything...

It’s easy to feel like everything needs to change at once.

You might notice patterns you don’t like, habits that aren’t helping, or areas of life that feel out of balance - and suddenly it can feel overwhelming.

So nothing changes.

Not because you don’t want to…
but because it all feels like too much.

The truth is, you don’t need to fix everything.

You just need a starting point.

Often, meaningful change begins much more simply than people expect:
• noticing what keeps coming up for you
• recognising one pattern you’re ready to shift
• being honest about what’s actually not working anymore
• taking one small step, rather than trying to overhaul everything

When you focus on one area at a time, things start to feel more manageable.

You build momentum.
You feel more in control.
And change becomes something you can actually sustain, not something that burns you out.

At Bayside Healthy Living, we take a very individual approach. There’s no pressure to “fix it all”, just a supportive space to work through what matters most to you, at your pace.

If you’ve been feeling stuck or overwhelmed, this might be your reminder that you don’t have to solve everything today.

You can just start here - in whatever way feels right for you.

✨ Online bookings launching next week

We’re in the final stages of testing our new online booking system and are looking forward to launching it next week.

For existing clients, this will make it easier to reschedule and book sessions in advance.

For new clients, you’ll be able to book a complimentary 15-minute phone or video call with Alison - a gentle first step to ask questions and explore how we work.

Now that Tara is no longer with us, Alison and Amanda will be personally responding to emails and calls. There may be slight delays between sessions, and we appreciate your understanding.

A quick note - Amanda’s books are currently closed to new clients so she can continue providing the highest level of care to those she is working with. Alison has expanded her availability, including out-of-hours appointments, to support both new and existing clients.

We’ve included a few screenshots below as a preview, and we’ll share the booking link very soon.

Taking a Break Isn’t a Luxury - It’s Essential Maintenance

Amanda is currently taking a well-earned break - and it’s a timely reminder of something we often overlook…

Rest isn’t something you earn once you’re exhausted.
It’s something that helps prevent you from getting there in the first place.

So many people push through:

“I’ll rest when things settle down”
“It’s not a good time right now”
“I just need to get through this next bit”

But the reality is… there’s always a “next bit.”

Without intentional pauses, the mind and body don’t get the chance to reset.
And over time, that can show up as:

– mental fatigue
– overwhelm or irritability
– feeling disconnected or flat

A proper break - whether it’s a holiday or simply stepping out of your routine - creates space.

Space to breathe.
Space to reset.
Space to come back clearer.

You don’t have to wait until you’re burnt out to take a break.

When was the last time you truly switched off - not just physically, but mentally?

You don’t have to wait until you’re burnt out to take a break.

When was the last time you truly switched off - not just physically, but mentally?

If you’ve been feeling stretched or stuck in “go mode” for too long, it might be time to reset.

We’re here to support you when you’re ready.

Warmest Regards,
Amanda and Alison

A Few Updates from Bayside Healthy Living

As our clinic continues to evolve, we wanted to share a few updates with our community.

Firstly, Tara will be moving on to a new role. We are incredibly grateful for her loyalty, support and persistence in helping clients find session times that suited their busy schedules. Tara has been a valued part of Bayside Healthy Living and we wish her all the very best for the future.

Alison is now well into her second year at Bayside Healthy Living, working alongside Amanda as a therapist. Alison has been loving her time in the clinic and has recently expanded her session availability, including some out-of-hours appointments, to help accommodate new clients.

After more than 13 years of supporting clients, Amanda has made the decision to slightly reduce her clinic load. For the first time, she has also paused accepting new clients so she can continue providing the best possible care and availability for those she is already working with.

Over the coming weeks we will also be trialling an online calendar system. This will allow existing clients to easily rebook or reschedule sessions with Amanda, and see Alison’s availability.

The calendar will also include 15-minute complimentary consultations with Alison, offering a gentle entry point for new clients who are curious about our work and would like to explore whether our approach feels right for them.

We will send you a link as soon as we have trialled and tested the new system – you will be the first to know.

As always with small business transitions, we truly value the feedback, ideas and suggestions from our community as we continue working to provide the best possible experience for our clients.

Warmest regards,
Amanda Hordern

You Don’t Need a Crisis to Ask For Help

Most people reach out for support when something breaks.

A relationship ends.
Anxiety becomes overwhelming.
Work becomes unbearable.
Health forces a wake-up call.

By that point, they’re in survival mode.

But what if you didn’t wait for that moment?

What if support wasn’t only for crisis, but for growth?

Preventative emotional work is rarely talked about. Yet it can be one of the most powerful investments you make in yourself.

You don’t have to be falling apart to benefit from resetting old patterns.
You don’t have to be at rock bottom to clear unconscious blocks.
You don’t have to justify wanting more clarity, calm, or direction.

Sometimes the strongest decision is choosing support while things are “fine” - before stress turns into burnout, or disconnection turns into resentment.

At Bayside Healthy Living, we often work with people who simply know something could feel lighter, clearer, or more aligned.

You don’t need a crisis to deserve change.

If you’re ready to explore what’s possible, even gently — we’re here.

The Hidden Cost of Holding It Together

Some people don’t fall apart.

They organise.
They support.
They manage.
They keep everything moving.

From the outside, they look steady.

But being “the strong one” can come with a quiet cost.

When you’re used to holding it together, you don’t always pause to process what you’re feeling. You just keep going.

Over time, that can build up.

It might look like:

• Feeling more irritable than usual
• A low-level exhaustion that doesn’t lift
• Quiet resentment you can’t quite explain
• Feeling flat, even when things are going well

High-functioning doesn’t always mean emotionally settled.

Sometimes it simply means you’ve learned to cope very well.

And coping is different from being truly at ease.

If you’re the one everyone relies on, this is your reminder:

✨ You’re allowed to need support too.
✨ You don’t have to carry it all on your own.
✨ You deserve space to exhale.

At Bayside Healthy Living, we work gently with the deeper emotional patterns that sit underneath the surface - helping you reset without drama, overwhelm, or judgement.

If this resonates, we’re here.

If you’d like to explore what might be sitting underneath your “holding it together,” you’re welcome to book a complimentary 15 minute consultation.

You Don’t Necessarily Need Another Goal - You Might Need Closure

This time of year, there’s a lot of pressure to set goals, make plans, and decide what’s next.

But for many people, the issue isn’t a lack of goals.
It’s that something from the year that’s just passed hasn’t been put down yet.

Unresolved emotions.
Disappointment.
Grief.
Conversations that never happened.
Situations that ended without clarity.

These things don’t disappear just because a new year begins. They sit quietly in the background, taking up mental and emotional space, and often leave people feeling flat, distracted, or stuck - without knowing exactly why.

This is something we see often at Bayside Healthy Living. People come in thinking they need more direction or motivation, when what they actually need is space to process and close off what’s still lingering underneath.

Until that happens, new goals can feel heavy rather than energising.

At Bayside Healthy Living, we work with the unconscious patterns and emotional loops that keep people mentally tied to the past. When those are gently resolved, people often find they have more clarity, energy, and capacity to move forward - without forcing it.

If you’re finding it hard to move forward because something from the past year still feels unresolved, an obligation-free 15-minute phone call can help you explore what needs closure and whether our approach is right for you.

A New Year. A Gentle Reset

A new year doesn’t have to arrive with pressure, resolutions, or big declarations.
Sometimes it begins with a quieter moment - a deep breath, a sense of relief, or the feeling that this year could be different.

A moment to pause.
To reconnect with yourself.
To choose how you want this year to feel.

At Bayside Healthy Living, we believe real change doesn’t come from pushing harder - it comes from understanding what’s been holding you back, and gently clearing the space for something better to grow.

This year, you don’t need to become someone new.
You just need to come back to you - calmer, clearer, and more supported.

If 2026 feels like the year you’re ready to let go of old patterns, emotional blocks, or the constant sense of “something’s not quite right,” we’d love to walk alongside you.

If you’re curious about what you’re ready to shift this year, book an obligation-free up to 15-minute phone consultation and let’s talk about what’s possible for you.

🎄 Merry Christmas from Bayside Healthy Living 🎄

As the year comes to a close, we’ve been taking a moment to reflect - and we’re feeling incredibly grateful.

This year marked 12 years of supporting people to become the best version of themselves, here in the Bayside community and beyond. It’s a privilege to walk alongside our clients, and we never take that trust lightly.

A few highlights from the year:

💚 We welcomed Alison Arvaj, a highly experienced and passionate therapist, who supports clients when Amanda is out of the clinic

💚 Alison also helped us expand our out-of-hours appointments, making it easier for working clients to access support

💚 We shared 647 clinical sessions with people ready to reduce anxiety, build confidence, move beyond PTSD, and create healthier ways of living

💚 Amanda spent 106 supervision sessions supporting both new and experienced therapists

💚 We reached 60 Google reviews - every kind word means so much and often gives new clients the confidence to take their first step

💚 41% of our new clients came through word of mouth - thank you for recommending us and trusting us with the people you care about

💚 17% of new referrals came from GPs, endocrinologists, oncologists and allied health professionals, whose ongoing trust we truly value

To our clients, referrers and community - thank you for being a part of our journey. Your support, encouragement and belief in what we do means everything to us.

As we gently move toward the New Year, we’re looking forward to continuing this work, supporting growth, healing and positive change - one person at a time.

Warm wishes,
Amanda & Alison
