‘Core strength’ tends to be prioritized at the lumbo-pelvic region (what people typically think of when it comes to core training).

🦴 The neck also has core muscles which is a series of deep muscles that help support and control the cervical spine. Neck problems arise when these deep muscles (deep cervical flexors and deep cervical extensors) are inhibited, weak or not being used. When this happens, the more superficial muscles around the neck take over the role of stability. These superficial neck muscles (upper trapezius, scalenes, sternocleidomastoids) are not designed to have a full time stability role, so they get overworked and ‘tight’.

🦴 The core of the neck is important. It allows you to control and maintain a desired neck and head position when static or moving.
Poor neck position at your desk, at the gym or in sport, walking, standing or sitting, leads to compensations from other muscles. Just like you shouldn’t necessarily round your back when deadlifting, you also shouldn’t have a poked out chin during movements or even when stationary.

🦴 ‘Tight’ neck is often just a neck that is in need of deeper stability. Your body craves stability especially your neck, as it literally supports your head which houses the most important part of your body, your brain 🧠.

🦴 Your spine should always be prioritized when it comes to stability. So check your alignment and posture. Book in for tips on how to support your spine 🤓

My first couple of weeks back was a hit 🙌🏼 Thanks for all your support. One of the highlights was finally meeting 2.5-month-old Ariana. What a bundle of joy for my two regular patients 🎀

We had a little fun performing tummy time which is the number one activity, absolutely essential and vital for an infant’s future health, motor and brain development. The vast amount of baby’s brain development comes from spinal movement. Strengthening of the neck and spine during tummy time not only drives brain development but also fires up the cerebellum which is a part of the brain important for movement, learning and fine motor skills.

Benefits of tummy time as early as at birth :

🍼 Develops spinal curvature
🍼 Integrates primitive reflexes
🍼 Stimulates brain development
🍼 Strengthens and coordinates muscles
🍼 Facilitates early motor development such as rolling, sitting, crawling and walking
🍼 Stimulates digestion
🍼 Encourages eye function for vision, tracking and coordination
🍼 Helps prevent plagiocephaly

If your baby is struggling or HATES tummy time, it’s a great idea to have them looked at.

I’m seeing an abundance of citrus on special at my local farmers’ 🍊🍋 Grapefruit, orange and anything sour-ish (fave!) are now in season. They’re packed full of Vitamin C which helps to absorb iron to beat the winter fatigue. Vitamin C is also an antioxidant that helps to support your immune system, protect the body from cellular damage, common colds and maintaining healthy skin. Perfect for the cold winter months 🥶

As the seasons change, so do our body’s nutritional needs. By aligning our diets with the seasons, we can cultivate a sense of harmony and balance within ourselves and our environment keeping the immune system at peak.

Research indicates that fruits and vegetables harvested in their natural seasons, boast higher nutritional value compared to those grown out of season. When produce is consumed at its peak ripeness, it delivers a concentrated burst of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that nourish our bodies at the cellular level.

What’s abundant on the shelves and on sale, grab them as your body will thank you 💛🧡

Who doesn’t love medjool dates? Dubbed ‘nature’s candy’ that has sweet caramel taste with low glycemic index value which does not spike blood sugar levels. I love snacking on a couple of these a day (that I had to write a post!), blended in my juice, adding into my broth, mixing into protein balls or nut bars. They are one of the most nutritious and healthiest fruits in the world ❤️‍🔥

Medjool dates benefit your body in a number of ways, nourishing your muscles, nerves, digestive system, immune system, blood pressure, brain function and more. Highly rich in fiber, potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper, Vitamin B and antioxidants.

Fun fact: Dates are considered the oldest cultivated fruit in the world with fossils suggesting that they were around 50 million years ago.

I can’t wait to see you on the table soon! Stay tuned 😉
