Really fun workshop at the Leopard y’day ✨

Chris and Troy from came in to talk all things shoes and some things feet. Despite having some solid foot knowledge, I think all practitioners really enjoyed chatting with the guys about what they provide as shoe specialists. And about common misconceptions we all have about what constitutes good footwear🙈

We’ll be setting up a referral service to a make sure our clients with any hip, knee and lower limb injuries can streamline their foot care and get access to a great individual service with a huge selection of fun shoes👟

Thanks for organising

Whether Charles Darwin said it or not, here’s a little reminder to improvise, adapt, overcome and be flexible - those most successful at this will thrive (and will have the best stories to share!)

⚡️Hinged Deficit Heel Raise⚡️

By adding a hinge hip to this position we are lengthening the tissue through the back of the legs. Think hamstrings and calves. From here, we drop the heels off the step, lengthening the tissue further, then activate the muscles in their most lengthened state to lift into a calf raise. Your guaranteed to feel the burn! Enjoy 🔥

We love running cause it’s low-maintenance and requires literally no equipment… well..until you’re convinced to spend big bucks for that little extra comfort. As comfort is different for everyone, what determines a comfy shoe?

Running shoes which are overly cushioned, have elevated heels and foot fixing pronation systems seem to be a popular choice however, they’re not evidence-based and could even make you more prone to injury.

As for personalised molds, a 2009 study in the Journal of SnC research discovered that pairing the imprint of your feet to your shoes has very little influence on injury risk and running performance.

Anddd funnily,a market research study from 2019 analysed more than 320,000 consumers of 336 workout shoes and found that the cheaper the shoe, the higher its rating and satisfaction.

So, who needs fancy shoes? Not us. If you want to get running strong come into our classes. Shoes are optional.

⚡️Barbell lat lunge+rotation ⚡️

This lateral lunge variation gets in deep around those groin muscles. It also provides some nice thoracic rotation work. It can be performed loaded with a barbell- as you see with Jordan. Or unloaded with a dowel stick! Enjoy ☺️

“It’s just like wrinkles on the inside”

Degeneration is soooo common. If you compare shoulder MRIs of groups of middle-ages ppl with shoulder pain to a group without shoulder pain, both groups will have the same number of rotator cuff tears.

They’ll also most likely have the same incidence of arthritis and because of this, a lot of MRI findings are considered “normal changes” - much like wrinkles on your skin.

Getting an evaluation by your practitioner can help to determine if you have any muscular imbalances, movement pattern faults, or stiffness into specific directions which could be contributing to your pain!

⚡️KB Single Arm Sit-up ⚡️

This situp variation incorporates muscles of the trunk, as well as overhead shoulder stability. It’s focusing on transferring energy through the kinetic chain.

It looks like a hefty & difficult movement but when broken down into simple steps can be achieved quickly

If you want to try this move in class, book into one of Jordan’s Monday or Tuesday classes over the next week!

It’s cheap and feels good, yes please! 🔥

Heat is so important for our achey, weary muscles. And used at the right time has huuuge beneficial effects on pain and physical function. Compared with placebo it improves tissue stiffness & promotes quicker recovery of musculoskeletal disorders.

It has also been shown to be more effective than pharmacotherapy (in limited studies)due to changes in mechanical soft tissues structures which increase ROM & disability.

It’s a good reminder to reach for the heat pack before the pain meds next time you have a pain hangover 🤕 🤔

⚡️Wide Stance Hip Hinge⚡️

Talk about mobility! The beauty of this exercise is that we are lengthening the hamstring muscles as well as some getting some serious strength gains. The slower you go, the more gains you get. Nick is making it look easy .. but the next day is like🥵

If you want to learn the technique or explore other similar movements book into Jordan’s Thursday or Friday classes. Link in bio ☝🏽

Is it that simple? Yes!

Improvements in strength create stronger muscles and tendons which help to hold the body in proper alignment and protect the joints and bones when moving or under impact.

Muscle imbalances are one of the most common causes of injuries so when one muscle groups become stronger than it’s opposing group, the underactive ones become fatigued and are more susceptible to injury.

These imbalances can also affect joints and bones due to abnormal pulls causing the joint to move in an unnatural pattern.

A balanced strength program will help to counter these effects by progressively loading under active muscles and re establish balance in the body.

If you want to overcome an injury or prevent future ones - jump into one of our classes. Follow the link in the bio ⚡️

⚡️ Lateral Slant Pogo ⚡️

What are pogos good for? Well, they challenge the foot stabilisers and create spring in the Achilles’ tendon. The aim is to create as minimal ground contact time as possible. This helps out the stretch shortening cycle, which is important for all things running and jumping!
