Nonie Carr - Enhance Life Psychology

Nonie Carr - Enhance Life Psychology Working together to live an enhanced life.

In April 2017 I opened the doors of Enhance Life Psychology.I started operating within a multi-disciplinary clinic in Prahran. In late 2020 I move Enhance Life Psychology to Albert Park and work within Crawley House on Montague St on the edges of the Village. I love working as a psychologist as it aligns with my values of honesty, fairness and hope, as well as my desire to help others. I’ve been a

secondary school teacher and have worked as a school psychologist in a girls’ secondary school for almost 10 years, while also working in private practice. One of the things I enjoy about working with people, and teaching is seeing that lightbulb moment, that “ahaha...” when things click, there is understanding, and a shift occurs.
I’m a Counselling Psychologist which means that there is a focus on mental health and wellbeing. I help you to live your best life; to live your life enhanced. I help you to find your strengths and together we work to find a new and helpful perspective, to explore different strategies and behaviours, and to develop a helpful understanding of your history and experiences. I help you identify goals and how to work towards them. I help you get the best from your performance in your chosen field of expertise. I help adults and adolescents to find ways to manage their worry or anxiety & stress to enhance their ability to perform at their best, whether in sport, the performing arts, at work or at home. I help you find ways to shift unhelpful thinking styles and to find a more helpful perspective. I help you to discover your values and to set goals to work towards that will help you to get the best out of your life; to live your life enhanced. When you’d like to have a conversation with me about how I might be able to help you, send a message or contact me through my website (link in my bio). Let me help you enhance your life. How much mess can you tolerate??
This mess was created within 30 minutes. I sat in a telehealth session with a client and noticed Bindi having great fun! Nothing important was destroyed… just the recycling!
Can you sit with mess? Can tolerate the distress that this mess creation might create in you? Is it ok to make a mess?
Once she was done, Bindi decided to lie down and wait for me to finish!
Sitting with distress, whether it’s from an emotional experience or pain or a situation you’re in is an useful skill… you can’t always make distress go away, sometimes we need to sit with it and allow it to pass.
(And, yes, I did clean up the mess once I was finished work! It’s not something that needed to be sat with for longer.)

Happy New Year!

As we start a new year we often start setting resolutions and wanting to become a new, different version of ourselves. It's not always realistic, but it's a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the months ahead. Are you looking to embrace new challenges, strengthen relationships, or focus on personal growth, the start of a new year can be a good time to shift focus. But it's always a good idea to ensure that these goals or resolutions are realistic and achievable. Along the way it's good to remember to cherish the moments with loved ones and celebrate the even the smallest victories. Here's to a year filled with joy, success, and meaningful experiences. Wishing you a prosperous and fulfilling 2025!

Sometimes it can be helpful having a chat to a professional to explore these goals and what that 'new version' of yourself might look like. I have immediate availability for new clients and I'd love to help you explore what it might mean to be a new or different version of yourself.

Oops… time has got away from me! How does this happen… every year?!? It’s only just December, but it feels like it’s still October, if you ignore the summer weather we’re having!!
Anyway… I’m seeing my last clients for 2024 next week. I’ll be on holidays from Thursday 12 December and will be back in the office on Monday 6 January 2025.
I have a few appointments available on Monday and Tuesday morning next week if you need a check in before Christmas.

Sometimes what’s in the distance is hidden. We might be working towards a goal, or maybe we’re unsure of the goal at this point, and we just can’t see what’s coming up. It can be hard to continue holding our goal in mind when it’s just not visible. It can be hard to keep going when we’re not sure of our final goal.
But sometimes it’s helpful to focus on the little steps on the way to our ultimate goal, or maybe it’s just knowing that next little step as our current goal.
And sometimes you might need help to identify that final goal or even the little steps to reach the final goal. Having that goal can be helpful in making our actions and choices purposeful.
Sometimes we need help identifying the goal or maybe just the steps to get to that goal.

Early morning bike ride to beat the heat meant I caught the sunrise.
Look after yourself if you’re in a place with extreme heat today. It’s going f to be 37 degrees in Melbourne. Stay cool, drink water and/or electrolytes, try not to spend too much time in the sun in the heat of the day. Look after others who you might see or know struggle in the heat.
