3 tips to keep back pain from ruining your workouts 👇
1️⃣ Warm up properly – Start with hip mobility and glute activation drills, then build up with lighter sets before heavy lifts.
2️⃣ Control your core – A strong, stable core takes pressure off your lower back, especially during compound movements.
3️⃣ Check your form – Prioritise quality over quantity. Good form keeps you strong and injury-free.
If back pain is holding you back, consider reaching out to our expert physiotherapists. Give our friendly team a call or book directly on our website (link in bio).

We’ve just released a new article going into depth explaining the early signs of lower back stress fractures that most people miss.
We recently had the pleasure of hosting Orthopaedic Surgeon Matt Barnes. Matt has a special interest in surgical management of the hip joint and knee joint.
We were doubly excited as we were also joined by our neighbours down the street Performance Exercise Physiology (PXP).
are a group of excellent Exercise Physiologist’s; they specialise in the prescription of exercise for various chronic health conditions including cardiovascular, orthopaedic and neurological conditions.
Matt presented on hip labrum tears; what they are and how they can be treated including surgical and non-surgical options.
There was also some great discussion around management options for other hip and knee conditions (e.g. hip and knee osteoarthritis and ACL knee injuries).
We thoroughly enjoy professional development sessions. We love interacting and learning from other passionate health professionals.
Thanks to Matt Barnes for the excellent presentation and the awesome PXP for joining us and contributing with such fantastic questions.

Can a torn ligament heal on its own?
Short answer: sometimes but it depends on the ligament, the grade of the tear and your functional goals. Low-grade sprains often respond well to conservative management (load progression, bracing if required, strength and neuromuscular training). High-grade tears, large instability or cases where return-to-sport is urgent may require surgical review.
Our process is to assess the injury severity, test stability and guide an evidence-based plan. That plan might include structured rehab, imaging or referral to orthopaedics when indicated — always focused on your goals and timeline.
⚠️ If you suspect a ligament injury, don’t delay. Book in for an assessment so we can determine the best path for your recovery.

Why I became a physio - Luke Dowse, clinic owner 👇🏻😊
"I have always enjoyed being active and participating in sport. The decision to choose to study physiotherapy was actually driven by a good friend and mentor who was pretty black and white with me about opting to study physiotherapy as he thought this would be a good fit – I’m grateful for his guidance and advice at the time, as I have really enjoyed my career in physiotherapy."
What keeps you passionate about physiotherapy today?
"I am passionate about seeing people live healthier lives, not struggle with pain and disability, I enjoy watching people participate in their sporting endeavours, such as play a game of footy or run a fun run, equally I enjoy watching people be able to function throughout their day more easily. I enjoy seeing people enjoy their lives, less riddled by injury."

These are harder than they look! Strong feet and ankles are the foundation of athletic movement — they help absorb force, provide a stable base and support efficient power transfer.
Today we’re sharing three progressions you can work into your warm-up: short-range single-leg hops (focus on control), resisted dorsiflexion/plantarflexion band drills, and dynamic balance reaches (eyes forward, soft knee).
Do each exercise for 30–60 seconds, control the landings and progress load as your technique improves. If you play footy, netball or any explosive sport, these drills will help reduce common foot and ankle complaints and improve performance.
