Ever wonder how exercise actually helps?

It’s not just about getting stronger or fitter—exercise triggers changes deep within your body, right down to the cellular level. Here's how:

🔹 It improves blood flow and boosts tissue repair
🔹 It helps muscles, bones, and joints adapt to load
🔹 It supports your heart, lungs, and circulation
🔹 It regulates your nervous system and boosts brain function
🔹 It increases your metabolism and helps regulate energy

This process called mechanotransduction is your body’s way of turning movement into long-term health benefits.

So whether you’re rehabbing an injury or just trying to stay active, remember: exercise really is medicine.

Physiotherapist Luke had the great opportunity of attending the “Strength and Power Diagnostics in Rehab” course hosted by the Performance Compass crew.

This was a greatly comprehensive course demonstrating the use of Force Plates in rehabilitation, what key measures to consider with particular tests (i.e. jumping, hopping and squat tasks) and ways to minimise any errors when testing.

Luke attended this course to further his own learning in Force Plate testing so that the people we see in the clinic are assessed as thoroughly as possible for any areas of improvement in their recovery ultimately so they are receiving excellent outcomes in their rehab journey - we strive to continually up the care we provide.

A big thank you to presenters and , who both have many years experience and still to date working with elite sporting teams, for sharing their theoretical and practical gold.

Luke being a Carlton supporter especially enjoyed the facilities of the famous Princes Park (now named Ikon Park) reveling in past premiership glories and plenty of history.

Stretch or Warm Up First? Here’s What Most People Get Wrong 🔥 Slide through to learn the right way to warm up.

✅ Start with an active warm-up
Think brisk walking, light cycling, or bodyweight movement. This gets the blood flowing and muscles ready to work.

🤸‍♂️ Add dynamic stretching
These are controlled, movement-based stretches (like leg swings or arm circles) to activate key muscle groups.

🚫 Skip static stretching before training
Holding stretches before activity can reduce power and performance — save these for after your workout.

🎯 Match your warm-up to your activity
Going for a run? Mobilise the hips. Playing sport? Mimic game movements. Tailor it to perform better and avoid injury.

Here are 4 common mistakes we see that can slow down your recovery:

1️⃣ Doing too much, too soon – pushing your body before it’s ready can lead to setbacks.
2️⃣ Skipping your rehab exercises – pain might ease, but the root cause may still be there.
3️⃣ Ignoring poor technique + bad habits.
4️⃣ Neglecting sleep – your body does most of its recovery work while you rest.

Recovery isn’t just about doing more - it’s about doing the right things, consistently.

🤔 How to know if you're getting better with physio treatment. Our expert physio Tom has created this handy guide - swipe to learn more and share this with a friend!

Progress isn’t always instant or linear but it is trackable. Setting clear short and long-term goals can help you see just how far you've come.

Here are some questions you might consider when trying to evaluate if your physio treatment is working:
-Pain: Is your pain improving? Are you better at managing your pain? Do you feel in control of your pain?
-Mobility/Function: Is your joint moving further or freer? Are you walking faster? Are daily tasks getting easier?
- Strength: Are you jumping higher? Running faster? Lifting easier? Throwing harder?

About

We are passionate about improving quality of life through improvement of physical function and decreasing pain.

Our philosophy of care goes beyond a short-term fix to help reduce pain by also addressing the cause of the problem to minimise the risk of repeated episodes of symptoms.

We highly value people understanding their physical problem/condition and take the time to explain this in a way that is not ‘too technical’.

If you’re experiencing physical pain in the area of any of the below we can help you out.
