I first discovered Steven Clavey through his books in our uni library, referencing his texts for pretty much every assignment I wrote. When it came to finding a clinic placement, I didn’t have to think twice about whom I would like to observe.

What was meant to be a three months placement ended up being three years observing him, learning from him, and finding my passion for herbs through him.

I was quite awestruck by his knowledge, and feel incredibly lucky and honoured to have learnt so much from him. A week doesn’t go by without me using one of his favourite herb combinations or formulae. And his formula for lower back pain is still the only thing that works for me!

I’ll forever cherish my time with him at The Apricot Grove… not just the learning, but also his dry, quirky sense of humour, his love for tea, the smell of herbs being prepared in the back, of ‘Chen Pi’ drying on the window sills, dispensing herbs with the traditional old scales, and piles and piles of herbs and books everywhere you looked.

At the beautiful memorial today, we got to pick books from his collection. I picked a herb book - naturally - and Wuthering Heights as the thought of Steven reading it made me smile. We talked so much about herbs… but I would loved to chat to him about Brontë sisters and my other favourite authors!

Thank you and farewell to an incredible teacher! You’ll be missed!

Peri-menopause and menopause can be hard! Not only does your body change, your mind changes, and with it an emotional roller coaster can be unleashed.

But it’s not all bad. Menopause is a life transition and that offers challenges as well as gifts.
