Haven Hues We work with people across the lifespan.

Neurodivergent Occupational Therapy
Founded by Hibak, an AuDHD occupational therapist, Haven Hues is built on a deep belief in neurodiversity, mental health, identity-affirming care, and culturally safe practice. Haven Hues Therapy is an Occupational Therapy Service that specialises in mental health and providing therapy to Neurodivergent people across the lifespan. Haven Hues was created by Hibak who is a late identified AuDHDer in response to the gaps neurodivergent people and their families often face in traditional systems. With experience in autism assessments and years of working in child and adolescent mental health, our occupational therapist, Hibak, saw firsthand how often neurodivergent needs were misunderstood or overlooked. A haven to celebrate, honour, and support the full spectrum and hues — of neurodivergent ways of being, across all ages: children, teens, and adults.

Ramadan Mubarak!!! it’s 20 minutes until I can drink some water WOOHOO 🌙🌷
Ramadan is a beautiful, spiritual month, but as an Autistic/ADHD Occupational Therapist with a PDA profile, I thought i might add my thoughts as best as I can with my one functioning brain cell left for the day 🤣

Your relationship with faith is allowed to be neuro-affirming. Let’s stop measuring our spirituality by neurotypical standards. ⚖️✨

Share this with someone who needs a reminder to be gentle with their brain today. 🕊️

Ramadan is almost here!!! 🌙✨

For my neurodivergent community, this month can feel like a lot, routine changes, sensory overload, and “demand avoidance” are so real right now.

And for my allies/non-Muslim besties, you might be wondering how to actually show up for the people in your life.

The main takeaway? There’s no “right” way to do Ramadan. Whether you’re fasting, navigating exemptions, or just trying to keep your nervous system regulated, your intention is what matters. 💖

Swipe through for:
• Why the ND experience of Ramadan is different 🧠
• How to support your Muslim friends (without being awkward lol)
- Exemptions and protecting your peace ☕️

Sharing is caring! Send this to a friend or save it for when the brain fog hits. 🌈✨

You’ve got unassessed sensory differences and it’s literally affecting everything. Work’s chaotic, social situations wreck you, you’re exhausted all the time, and you genuinely think it’s a personal failure 🥺

It’s not. Your sensory system processes differently. That’s the data point. That’s it 🌷🩷

A sensory assessment isn’t about fixing anything. It’s about understanding how your body processes the world so you can actually design a life that doesn’t exhaust you.
Here’s what changes: you stop wondering why normal things feel impossible. You get concrete reasons and actual strategies that work for YOUR system, not some generic template.

At Haven Hues, I do standalone sensory assessments for adults. No ongoing commitment. Just a proper deep dive into what you need and how to make daily life feel manageable.
Stop guessing. Start designing.

If you’ve been feeling pulled toward slow, repetitive hobbies lately, your nervous system is trying to tell you something 🧵
Knitting, baking, gardening, crafts, these aren’t just “cosy vibes.” They’re regulation tools.

OTs have known this for 100+ years: repetitive, rhythmic movements with predictable sensory input help your nervous system downregulate.

It’s why basket weaving became the OT profession stereotype (yes, really - swipe to see why).

The therapeutic power was never about making the perfect basket. It was about the process of weaving it.
Your brain gets an anchor. Your body gets a rhythm. Your nervous system gets a break from chaos.

So next time you find yourself gravitating toward these activities? That’s not procrastination. That’s self-regulation.
Trust what your body is asking for.

my special interest is research papers and i’m making it everyone’s problem today.
working across both public mental health and private practice, i’m always looking for the evidence that explains why our brains/bodies react the way they do.

this week’s research dump covers:
✨ why sensory profiles are importwnt in adult mental health .
✨ a study that actually focuses on PDA adults
✨ the neuroscience of intuition (and why we miss social cues).
✨ the messy link between pots, heds, and mcas.

POV: You close your laptop at 5 PM and immediately forget who you are. 🫠
Let’s be real, if your entire personality is your Google Calendar and your job title, we need to talk.
We have been gaslit into thinking that if a hobby doesn’t make money (side hustle) or make us look aesthetic (content), it’s a waste of time.
Here is the truth: Your Occupational Identity is the lore of your life. It’s the answer to “Who are you?” that has nothing to do with labour.
If you don’t have occupations outside of work, you don’t have a buffer for burnout. It’s time to enter your “Ugly Hobby” era. Do things badly. Do them for zero dollars. Do them just to feel the dopamine. 🧠✨
Swipe to reclaim your identity outside the 9-5. 👉

It’s OT Week, and this year’s theme is “OT in Action.”
As a neurodivergent occupational therapist, I don’t just talk about sensory regulation. I rely on it every day to support my own focus, wellbeing, and energy.

Applying OT principles to my own life has helped me understand my clients’ experiences more deeply, and it’s taught me the importance of building habits that actually work in real life not just on paper.

What sensory strategies help you stay regulated?

Share yours below or save this post for a future reminder.

Happy OT Week to all the practitioners, clients, and sensory-seekers out there.

Unmasking isn’t always safe.
Sometimes it’s survival that keeps the mask on.

Many conversations about ‘unmasking’ come from a place of privilege where authenticity is encouraged, supported, and even celebrated.

But for people from racially marginalised communities, being visibly neurodivergent or behaving ‘differently’ can attract judgement, discrimination, or even danger.

Masking, for some, isn’t about people-pleasing.
It’s about staying alive, staying employed, staying unseen enough to stay safe.

So when we talk about ‘unmasking,’ let’s also talk about who gets to do it safely and who doesn’t.

Compassion means recognising that safety isn’t shared equally.

🌀 DYSPRAXIA MYTHBUSTERS: What it isn't
No, it’s not just being clumsy. No, it’s not laziness. No, it’s not “just messy.”

Dyspraxia (also called Developmental Coordination Disorder) affects how the brain plans and coordinates movement. It can also impact organisation, time management, and everyday tasks that others take for granted.

These are neurological differences, not character flaws.

✨ Swipe through for some common myths and the real story.
