AI is screening resumes faster than ever, but that doesn’t mean your application has to get lost in the shuffle.

If you’re applying for jobs, here are 3 simple ways to stand out:

• Use the same keywords from the job ad in your resume
• Keep your format clear and easy for systems to read
• Show real examples of your skills, training, and strengths

For young people with disability, this is not about changing who you are.
It’s about making sure your skills are seen clearly by both AI and employers.

You’ve got strengths worth sharing, and the right support can make all the difference.

Building your career toolkit starts with two things: hard skills and soft skills.

Hard skills are the practical skills you can learn and use on the job — think customer service systems, workplace safety, cash handling, or using digital tools.

Soft skills are just as important — communication, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, and showing up with confidence.

When young people with disability build both, they’re better prepared for real workplaces, more ready for training opportunities, and more confident stepping into their next role.

That’s why tailored support matters.

At Next Gen Youth Employment, we help young people build skills that match their strengths, interests, and goals — with support that makes sense for them.

If you’re ready to take the next step, check your eligibility.

Your resume doesn’t need to be flashy — it needs to clearly show what you can do.

Here’s a simple way to tailor it:

1. Start with a short summary
Share who you are, what you’re aiming for, and the value you bring.

2. Use ATS-friendly keywords
Match the words in the job ad so your resume is easier to read by hiring systems.

3. Highlight unique skills
Think about communication, teamwork, reliability, problem-solving, or anything you’ve learned through school, volunteering, work experience, or support programs.

4. Include measurable results
Where you can, add numbers or outcomes.
For example: helped organise 20 files, supported 5 customers, or completed 3 weeks of work placement.

5. Show your personal brand
Keep your resume clear, consistent, and true to you.

6. Keep it relevant
Only include details that support the role you want.

Small changes can make a big difference.
If you’d like support with your next step, check your eligibility and get in touch.

Being organised and having strong daily living skills are important for getting a job and keeping it long term.

🗂️ Being Organized Helps You:
Get to work on time (planning transport, setting alarms)
Keep track of rosters, shifts, and appointments
Remember important tasks and instructions
Stay prepared (uniform ready, bag packed, lunch organised)
Reduce stress and feel more in control

🏠 Daily Living Skills Help You:
Follow a morning routine so you arrive ready for work
Manage sleep, hygiene, and personal care
Prepare meals so you have energy for your shift
Manage money (budgeting, saving, paying bills)
Maintain a clean and safe living environment
💼 How This Connects to Employment:

When you are organised and manage daily life well, you are more likely to:

Be reliable and consistent at work
Show responsibility and independence
Handle challenges and changes more easily
Build trust with employers and coworkers
Maintain employment long term

Your Journey, Your Triumphs 💙

Every step forward matters.

A first interview.
A new skill.
A certificate completed.
A work placement started.

These moments are more than milestones — they’re proof of your effort, growth and courage.

If you’re a young person with disability, take time to recognise what you’ve achieved so far. Your path is your own, and every win counts.

Keep going. You’re building something meaningful, one step at a time.

Feeling nervous before an interview is completely normal — and you’re not on your own.

Empower your interview confidence with three personalised strategies:

1. Identify your unique strengths
Write down what you do well, the support you use, and the qualities you bring to a team.

2. Practise inclusive communication techniques
Prepare simple ways to talk about your needs, ask for clarification, and share your answers clearly.

3. Set realistic interview goals
Focus on one step at a time, like practising answers, choosing your outfit, or planning your travel.

Small steps can build big confidence.

If you’re a young person with disability, a parent, or an employer wanting to support inclusive employment, check your eligibility.
