For every mama client I have, I am usually working towards a clean and press. One of the reasons I like this exercise is because I see it everywhere in their activities of daily life – from packing the car, to carrying a child, to hanging the washing out.

If you have chronic “niggles” and haven't been seen be a women's health physio, it's time to rule that out as a contributing factor or cause. Some studies have found up to 95% of women with chronic LBP have pelvic floor dysfunction. There's a link in the caption to look up your closest.

Once you've seen a physio, you will know if you need to strengthen, lengthen, work on timing, or work on coordination. Do not assume it is “weak” and needs strengthening, because “weak” pelvic floor is NOT a pattern I see here. This is not saying that “most” people won't need strength training, maybe most of them do, but the other area's that contribute to function are equally important.

How to work out if you have "parenthood posture"!
Look in the mirror, front on and side on. Do your earlobes align (effortlessly) with your shoulders? Do your shoulders align with each other? Do they sit easily over your ribs and pelvis?
In mums, i commonly see them not aligned, and if that's true for you too, then these exercises may be helpful for you:
1. Stretch chest (PP titanic)
2. Mobilise shoulders (PP rolling plank)
3. Strengthen back (PP single arm row)

As a strength and conditioning coach, I got out of training athletes and in to training women because there was an obvious need for “sports specific” training for women – towards motherhood movement patterns - movements that will make them better at what they do everyday!

I see these patterns again and again with my female Clients, and this month I am going to show you how to find them and then balance them.

Starting with the knees collapsing together (without diagnosing foot/arch/vmo/glute weakness or problems, these should still work!)

Comfort foods are food that provides consolation or a feeling of well-being, typically having a high sugar or carbohydrate content and associated with childhood or home cooking. Traditionally, we are conditioned to reach for unhealthy or "bad" foods for comfort, but what if we could comfort ourselves in a healthy way?
We can!
So YES to comfort foods, but perhaps tweak it a little!
