Is this ACTUALLY true? Does healthy food really equate to healthy living?
I do believe food has a significant impact on health and life, BUT the equation that leads to healthy living is way more complex than that!
Let's say we are just looking into the food component of what someone would consider healthy living - even then, we can say that the food you are eating is NOT equal to the nutrition you are getting!
How much nutrition you get from a particular food depends on:
INTAKE
When it comes to nutrition, this is the factor that many people think of. What you actually consume in your diet is your intake. If you eat a wholefood-based diet, you will likely have a good intake of most nutrients. But if your diet contains a lot of processed foods, you could be missing out on key nutrients.
ABSORPTION
It's one thing to put the food into your mouth. But from there, your body has to extract the nutrients from the food. Absorption is where many of us have issues getting enough nutrition, even if we're eating reasonably well.
USE
Nutrients are there for the body to use. But everyone has different levels of use for nutrients, depending on their age, stage of life, lifestyle and general health. For example, a pregnant woman has a higher need for many nutrients to support her growing baby. The greater the demand for a nutrient, the easier it is to become deficient. So some people may need to adjust their intake to account for the increased use.
So if your goal is healthy living, then think about what you can do to get the maximum benefits of your healthy eating. What changes can you make today to support your optimal wellbeing? 🤍
