What is your gut trying to tell you!?
You can be often told that you have IBS but this is a very broad and general term describing a bunch of symptoms and not exploring the full picture.

Let go deeper:

🤎SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) happens when there is an overgrowth of bacteria where they shouldn’t be. It often causes bloating after eating, especially with carbs and fiber, along with constipation or diarrhea, brain fog, and fatigue. This can be tested with a SIBO breath test using lactulose or glucose.

🤎Gut dysbiosis is an imbalance in gut bacteria characterized by low diversity or overgrowth of harmful microbes. It can be triggered by stress, antibiotics, or a poor diet. Symptoms often include bloating, irregular stools, skin flare-ups, and low mood. Testing options include GI-MAP, stool tests, or can be inferred from history and symptoms.

🤎Food sensitivities or intolerances are often overlooked, especially sensitivities to histamine, gluten, dairy, or FODMAPs. These are not always allergies but rather your gut not tolerating certain foods, and they can be temporary while your gut heals.

🤎Stress and nervous system dysregulation play a huge role, as chronic stress alters gut motility, enzyme release, and the microbiome. The gut-brain axis is deeply involved, and this is often missed unless anxiety, trauma, or burnout are explored.

🤎Hormonal gut issues, especially in women, occur because shifts in estrogen and progesterone affect the gut. For example, PMS diarrhea, ovulation bloating, or constipation around your period can all be hormonal.

Our gut microbiome changes. You could be doing the exact same things you did years ago but now you are experiencing gut issues. Or you could be experiencing the same symptoms for years and years and it’s time to sort it out. Lets do some microbiome gut testing and get you on the right protocol to heal your gut.

🌿 From a Naturopath’s Perspective 🌿
Healing is rarely quick and almost never a straight line.
It’s a process. Sometimes slow. Frustrating. Often layered.
As a Naturopath, I support people through a wide range of health challenges from gut issues and fatigue to hormone imbalances, stress, and inflammation. And I want to share this:
🌱Healing takes time.
🌱It often means unlearning old habits.
🌱It requires consistency — not perfection.
🌱And it’s okay to have setbacks.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. What works for one person may not work for another. That’s why I focus on getting to the root cause, supporting the body’s natural ability to restore balance and understanding where you are at.
If you’re in the middle of your healing journey, remember:
You’re recalibrating. Recovering. Your body is working for you. I have to remind myself regularly of this too!

Remember you don’t have to figure it out alone.

🌺 Heavy, Painful, Clotty Periods? Let’s Talk.

If your period feels like a monthly battle withheavy flow, intense cramps, and large clots — your body may be trying to tell you something.
From a naturopathic perspective, we often look deeper at hormone balance, liver health, and inflammation. Here are a few key root causes:
🎀Estrogen Dominance – Too much estrogen (or too little progesterone) can lead to heavy bleeding and clotting.
🎀Liver Overload – Your liver helps process hormones. When it’s sluggish, estrogen can build up.
🎀Inflammation & Prostaglandins – High inflammation can make cramps worse and periods heavier.
🎀Iron Deficiency – Often a result of heavy periods, but low iron can also worsen fatigue and increase bleeding.

Some options I would consider:
✔ Support your liver with herbs
✔ Reduce inflammatory foods
✔ Eat brassica veggies to help detox oestrogen 🥦
✔ Consider magnesium, vitamin complex or herbal tonic for hormone support (all depending on what you need to support you)

Let’s not normalise painful, exhausting periods. There are so many effective ways to support you cycle for this not to be your every month.

📣Calling all the ladies struggling with PMS…

Let’s simplify what’s really going on behind the scenes:

Estrogen dominance happens when estrogen is high in relation to progesterone. I see this often in clinic, especially in women dealing with PMS, perimenopause, or using the oral contraceptive pill.

Common Symptoms I See in Clinic:
💥Weight gain (especially hips/thighs)
💥Breast tenderness or swelling
💥Heavy, painful, or irregular periods
💥Mood swings, irritability
💥Bloating and water retention
💥Constant fatigue
💥Low libido
💥Anxiety, low mood, or depression
💥Acne (on chin especially)

Depending on your symptoms, here are some of the key nutrients and herbs I may prescribe to help bring your hormones back into balance. (I’ve got some incredible herbs to tailor just for you!)

🤎Magnesium
• Calms cramps, bloating, mood swings, and headaches.
• Supports healthy progesterone production.
🤎Omega-3 Fatty Acids
• Anti-inflammatory
• Eases menstrual pain and supports mood and energy.
My personalised blends often include:
🤎Vitex (Chaste Tree) – for progesterone support & cycle regulation.
🤎Saffron– clinically shown to ease PMS-related anxiety and low mood
🤎Turmeric – for inflammation and liver detox support.

A healthy liver helps clear excess estrogen efficiently. Herbs like milk thistle, dandelion root, and schisandra gently support detox pathways.

🌟TLC for our liver = less bloating, breast pain, and hormone congestion!

✨ If your period regularly forces you to cancel plans, take days off work, or retreat from your life—that’s not just “part of being a woman.” Your symptoms are valid, but they’re also a signal. With the right support, your cycle can feel calm, balanced, and manageable.

You deserve better than surviving your cycle—you deserve to thrive through it. 💛
As always, please consult your naturopath before starting any supplements or herbal medicine.

The 3pm slump 🍫☕️🍫☕️🍫☕️🍫☕️🍫☕️ Having an energy slump in the late afternoon may be the result of blood sugar dysregulation and caffeine crashes.
Many people try to push through by consuming more caffeine and sugar, which is more draining to your energy later in the day- it’s a vicious cycle!

Try this:
☕️Drink coffee after food to reduce the caffeine spike and crash.
☕️Consume a protein rich breakfast and don’t skip meals.
☕️Avoid over-eating / simple carbohydrates at lunch time.
☕️Expose your eyes and skin to natural morning light before midday.
☕️Take a brisk walk after lunch to support glucose uptake by the muscles.

Did you know that our liver is the most forgiving organ in our body?
Every Christmas & New Year our liver has an even heavier workload. More alcohol, richer foods and more sugar- throw in some stress and less movements it’s totally understandable that you feeling very, very sluggish. Give it some loving and your energy/mood will improve, skin will be brighter and your metabolism will fire up again!

Some sign that your liver needs TLC are :
💤feeling tired and fatigued constantly
👅you could have a white or yellow-coated tongue and/or bad breath.
🎅Weight gain - especially around the abdomen.
🍫Cravings and/or blood sugar issues
😡low mood/ easily frustrated

Solution:
You could say detox time 💙(my plans are catered to you, your health goals and symptoms).

Some work you could do to prepare your body before a detox is to:
☕️Reduce caffeine/ alcohol
💦Increase H2O- aiming to hydrate and flush out toxins
🫐Increase fruit and vegetables- this will increase antioxidants and fibre
😴7-8 hours sleep a night
🛼Stay active
🍩Reduce sugar

My favourite part is selecting the perfect herbs and supplements to support your liver.
One of my favourite is called Schisandra chinensis.
It works by enhancing liver detoxification and supports tissue regeneration. It’s also an adaptogens. This means that it supports the body’s ability to deal with stress—whether that stress is from anxiety, fatigue, trauma, infection. And lastly it called the beauty berry because it known to promote beautiful, radiant skin. For the love of herbal medicine ❤️

Other amazing liver herbs that detoxify, protect, repair, and stimulate liver function are St Mary’s thistle, dandelion, rosemary, tumeric and bupleurum to name a few.

As always consult with your health practitioner to insure that you are on the right herbal medicine and supplements to support your health goals.

New Year Anxiety! Sometimes it can be just the anticipation of starting back at work that triggers this.

Christmas and News Year is a time when our routine can go out the window, we eating differently and having more spare time on our hands to overthink- if you suffer from anxiety these are perfect conditions for it to flourish.

My favourite lifestyle suggestions to help shift anxiety are:

☀️Diet. If I’m eating all the fresh & colourful fruit and veg, good protein and fats it’s a game changer for me. This is called ‘good mood food’
☀️100% coffee after food. On an empty stomach it can increase our stress hormones and if you have anxiety it’s best to avoid caffeine full stop.
☀️Ensure you eat breakfast within the first hour of getting up. Food is fuel for your body to help it cope and thrive. It’s like driving around with the handbrake on if you skip meals- everything is just harder to deal with and your hormones don’t like it.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many amazing herbs and nutrients that can support my anxious peeps too but diet and lifestyle is a great place to start! 😍🥰❤️

How to Keep Your Skin plump for a Vibrant, Glowing Complexion 🍑

Perimenopause gets the heat for alot for unwanted symptoms and recently dry skin was one which does makes sense. When I asked if they drank water and their response was no, I thought sharing some key skin loving nutrients would be fab!

Your skin is the largest organ on your body, made up of several different components, including water, protein, lipids, and different minerals so it’s essential to feed the skin what it loves

Simply drink enough water: The epidermis has many functions, including: Hydration. The outermost layer of the epidermis holds in water and keeps your skin hydrated and healthy. Just think of a prune which is dehydrated and a plum, the hydrated form of the fruit.

Omega fatty acids offer incredible benefits for the skin. They act as building blocks in the skin cells, strengthening the skin’s surface layers for a smoother, healthier and younger-looking complexion. From our diet add fish, avocado, olive oil and nuts/ seeds into your diet religiously.

The earlier you start the better! Collagen is protein molecules made up of amino acids. It provides structural support to the connective skin tissues- it improves skin moisture, elasticity, and hydration. Make sure your meals are rich is proteins therefore amino acids and add collagen powder into your daily routine. This will also help with joints and ligament health as well really important later on in@life too.

This is a good start….
Also using simply skin care that enriches and hydrates from the outside in is a must- it doesn’t have to be a complex skin routine xx

It’s just one of those things, that girls goes through…. Nope, not when it comes to constant period pain, heavy periods and gut pain. Let’s chat ☺️

Your symptoms are all connected!
When your gut microbiome isn’t working well, estrogen that should be eliminated through your stools 💩will be re-absorbed ,and can cause period pain, heavy periods, bloating, pms…

If you feel uncomfortable in your gut then your hormones are feeling the same 💯

Where to start?
Our hormones are at their happiest when we support the gut, liver- the elimination pathways. You can start by eating plenty of high fibre vegetables and fruit. Include daily broccoli, bok choy and cabbage- steamed, stirfried, cooked but not raw. Try and get more variety of veggies in your diet- eat the colours of the rainbow we like to say 🌈
•I promise I’m not here to take all your fun away but consider reducing your intake of alcohol and refined sugars. This can contribute to dysbiosis/ unbalance & inflammation= pains, heaviness and you feeling unhappy
•Stress has a huge impact on your microbiome. Start small and try deep breathing, yin yoga, movement , getting enough sleep/ good sleep hygiene or create some daily rituals- your brain loves routine.
Eat breakfast and coffee after food are some good ones to add into your daily rituals.

Naturopathy shines here 🌟
Of course everyone is different and there is not a one size fits all BUT we get that, and find solutions for you and where you are in your health journey

What is the role of a Naturopath!

So as a Naturopath I take a wholistic approach to your health. I ask lots of questions that at the time may not seem related to your reason why you came to see me but this gives me a better understand on how your body works. As a Naturopath we think everything thing is interconnected so for example if you come to me with bad reoccurring migraines- is it due to hormonal health, stress response or related to your gut? Here I treat the cause to reduce/ eliminate migraines and not mast the symptoms so it keeps on reoccurring. Of course I can give symptomatic relief as well but behind the scenes I’m resolving the root issue. With a protocol (that may include herbal medicine or specific nutrients)that you can manage in your day to day life and tweaking some lifestyle habits or creating some new ones you will feel strong and more in control of your health because you will see improvement and feel motivated.

At the moment In clinic I’m seeing: fatigue and feeling sluggish, burnout, anxiety, heavy/ painful periods, post pill, insomnia, long covid, snuggling immune systems, low libido.

Any questions ask away 🤍

If you do the one percenters each day for one year, you'll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you're done. This is why small choices don't make much of a difference at the time, but add up over the long-term. Consistency and all the one percenters 💫
