“I’ve done these events as a sighted athlete and as a non-sighted athlete. There’s no reason to disengage from sport or from society. You can still do it, you just do it with different supports.”- Trevor.

Trevor has always been a keen athlete, and losing his vision wasn't going to put an end to that. Read his inspiring story at the link below:

During May we’ll be making changes to what you hear when you phone Vision Australia, including our National Contact Centre (NCC) or when you call a Vision Australia office or store location.

Callers will be able speak or use the keypad on their phone to choose who they would like to speak to. This will make it quicker and easier for callers to be connected to a team member best placed to help them.

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day, and we are officially launching our Accessibility Starts at Home Brand Report Card.

Australians who are blind or have low vision shared their experiences using everyday home appliances, and the findings show accessible doesn’t always mean independently usable.

The report highlights both the progress being made and the barriers still impacting independence at home.

[ID2: Text reading: Bosch washing machines and dryers compatible with the Home Connect app were identified as among the more accessible options currently available, particularly for users who are blind and rely on screen readers or smartphone controls.]
[ID3: Text reading: Miele’s MobileControl and voice control integrations were recognised as promising accessibility features, particularly for users already using smart home ecosystems.]
[ID4: Text reading: Leading brand: Vision Australia. The Vision Australia Talking Microwave stood out for its audio feedback and non-visual operation, allowing blind users to independently access functions without relying on visual displays.]

Vision Australia CEO David Williamson has been out and about across Victoria and New South Wales, meeting the incredible staff, clients, partners and volunteers who help make our services possible every day.

From Bendigo and Dandenong to Newcastle, Gosford, Ashfield, Parramatta and Seeing Eye Dogs HQ in Kensington, David spent time with local teams learning more about the important work happening in communities to support people who are blind or have low vision.

The visits were also an opportunity to hear directly from staff, share updates on Vision Australia’s future direction, and discuss how we can continue delivering life-changing services including assistive technology support, Seeing Eye Dogs, employment services, allied health, children and family services, and more.

While visiting Mornington, David also met with Dr Justin Sherwin from Peninsula Eye Centre to talk about the importance of collaboration between eye health professionals and Vision Australia to help people access the support they need, when they need it most.

Thank you to all the teams and partners who welcomed David along the way!

Join the Feelix Library for National Simultaneous Storytime

Every year, millions of children across the country gather with teachers, family and friends to read the same book, on the same day, creating a sense of community from a shared love of reading.

This year, the chosen book is Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller’, an underdog story about believing in yourself despite the odds.

We would love our youngest readers to join us online for our unique Storytime, enhanced with audio descriptions of the beautiful illustrations of Australian animals competing in the World Cup.

This will be a fully accessible event for blind and low vision children. You can even create your own tactile book to read during National Simultaneous Storytime.

To access the Tactile Book Instructions and register to be part of our online Storytime, visit https://www.visionaustralia.org/services/staying-connected/events/2026-05-27/national-simultaneous-storytime-feelix-library
