Border reopening for eligible visa holders

Australian borders will reopen on 1 December 2021 for eligible visa holders to allow travel to Australia without the requirement for travel exemptions. Other requirements such as Australian Travel Declarations and pre flight COVID testing will still be required.

Victoria State Nomination

Victoria’s Skilled Migration Program for 2021/22 opens to new Registration of Interest (ROIs) today (07 July 2021).

For this new program, State of Victoria will be selecting candidates who are currently living and working in Victoria using their STEMMS (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) skills in a target sector.

Summary Requirements for Victoria’s Skilled Migration Program:
- You must be currently working and living in Victoria (sc190) or Regional Victoria (sc491) in a target sectors (Health, Medical research, Life sciences, Agri-food, Advanced manufacturing, New energy, emissions reduction and circular economy, Digital skills including cyber security)
A casual employment is accepted (with no minimum experience). The employment must be in a nominated occupation or closely related to your nominated occupation
- You must have a valid positive skill assessment in your nominated occupations
- You must be under 45 years
- You must have at least Competent English
- You must have achieved at least 65 points

Migration Program for 2021-22

Department of Home Affairs has capped total places of 160,000 for this year (same numbers as 2020-2021 migration program).

Skill stream has 79,600 places and 50% of the program dedicated to Employer sponsored, Business Innovation and Investment Program and Global Talent

Family stream (mostly partner visas) has 77,300 places

The Department will focus on reducing onshore pipeline and International students will start returning (on small phased program) by end of this year.

Temporary visa holder arrangements during the coronavirus crisis (as per 4 April 2020)

- Extended working hours for some eligible students who have been working in critical sectors such as health, aged and disability care, agriculture and food processing (from 1 May, the hours will return to the maximum 40 hours fortnightly).
- Some arrangement for sc 457/482 visa holders
- Working holiday makers who are working in the critical sectors will be exempt from the six month work limitation with the one employer
- Most temporary visa holders with work rights will now be able to access their Australian superannuation
