I’ve lived a few different lives.

Nightclubs. Festivals. Record labels. Tattoo parlours. Marriage. Fatherhood. Construction sites. Funeral homes. Memorial gardens.

From DJ booths to death care - it probably doesn’t make sense on paper, but every step led me here.

Losing Joshua changed the trajectory of my life. It forced me to confront something most of us spend our lives avoiding - death. And strangely, sitting with that discomfort gave me clarity about how I actually want to live.

Today, I work in an industry most people are afraid to talk about, and I’ve found more meaning here than anywhere else.

If you’re curious about life, death and everything in between - you’re in the right place.

Have you heard of a “living wake”? Put simply, it’s a gathering that allows people to say goodbye to a loved one that is nearing the end of their life, while they’re still alive. I was fortunate to talk with - a PhD candidate in anthropology, currently researching creative rituals at the end of life, and more specifically living wakes. While they’re not a recent innovation, this type of pre-funeral celebration of life seems to be on the rise, with many terminally ill people (and their families) finding comfort in sharing stories in a positive environment. So, would you have a living wake?

When I met with families to arrange their loved one’s funeral, they would often ask themselves “what would ____ have wanted?” There seems to be a balancing act between honouring the deceased’s wishes, while doing what is comforting and meaningful for those left behind. This conversation is particularly challenging when the death was unexpected, or the deceased never made their wishes known. I’ve heard it said that “a funeral is ABOUT the deceased, but it’s FOR the living”. What are your thoughts? 🤔

Thinking about a career in the funeral industry? Here’s some advice from a 40-year veteran ⚰️⚱️

29/12/2025

⚰️ Have you ever considered a career in death care? I definitely didn’t grow up thinking “I want to be a funeral director when I’m older”, but entering this industry has turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made. Shoutout to everyone who has found their vocation in this amazing industry. Whether you’re a funeral director, embalmer, hearse driver, gravedigger, crematorium operator, doula, celebrant or any other role - it takes a special kind of person to show up day after day and assist grieving families 🤍
