Today, Lani and I had the privilege of being asked to speak with hairdressing students at Hallam Secondary College in Melbourne about wigs and hair pieces, how to wash and style them, who needs them, what you need to get into the industry, what other hair loss sectors can they be involved in such as trichology.
Lani was the perfect example for the students, besides being way closer to their age!, she was able to articulate how she started in the general hairdressing salon and what drove her to begin and stay in hair replacement. She spoke about the importance of truly loving what you do and sincerely caring about the outcome for our often highly vulnerable clients. We hope the students enjoyed our session together as much as we did and we wish them so much success in their careers! Thank you .pradolin and Tammy x

Currently in Australia, cranial prosthetics such as wigs are subject to the GST. This heavy tax goes against the principle of treating all prosthetics equally, as other necessary prosthetics designed for medical purposes are exempt from this tax. Yesterday I saw a client in Sydney who is struggling with the loss of her hair as a result of trauma she experienced several months ago. She still has some hair left but not much. As the months have passed she has become more and more depressed about her appearance. She started working from home and leaving her camera off in meetings. She has now stopped going out with friends and is having her husband take the kids to their activities. She has also stopped organising their regular date night. When she looks in the mirror she cries. Her husband consoles her and reassures her that she is still beautiful. That is helpful but only for a moment because when she looks back into the mirror she sees a very different person to the one she has known for 42 years. She looks sick, yet she isn't, she looks masculine yet she isn't, she doesn't feel attractive at all, she doesn't dress up anymore - cause what's the point. Her husband, so concerned at her deterioration, brought her in yesterday for me to help her and I am so pleased that he did because I know from my own experience what wearing a wig is going to do for her - literally, it will change her life.

After 50 years with no hair, I still feel similar to my client - I don't feel like myself when I see myself with no hair and yet that is how I have been since I was 3 years old. It is very strange that I see me when I have hair on. That is why I wear a wig most of the time;
to feel 'normal',
to feel confident and not self conscious,
to have hair like everyone else,
to feel feminine,
to participate 'normally' in life,
to go about my day anonymous to my hair loss.

These depressing, debilitating and socially isolating feelings can be eased and managed by wearing high quality and realistic wigs and hair pieces, believe me, I know.

Our team are so fortunate to have helped beautiful who is going through treatment for brain cancer.

We are in awe of her bravery and the inspiration she is providing to her followers and others with cancer.

At our consultation in Sydney, Alea was very specific about the type of hair solution she required. Because she has been having radiation targeting one side of her brain - that’s where the hairloss has occurred. Her hair still remains on her left side. Because of this she did not want a full wig. This solution also makes it easier for Alea to put on as she currently has limited arm mobility - this makes it easier to use one arm and therefore not rely on others for help as she would need to with a wig.

So we created a customised topper that clips in to her hair on the left side and bonds (sticks) to the right side without hair.

Then our hairstylists, Chris and Lani cut and styled the piece while on Alea to replicate her own style.

What is your New Year’s Hair Resolution?

Mine is a CNC Bonded Hair Replacement system.
I have finally decided to wear a bonded system – after we have been offering hair replacement to hundreds of others for the past six years!

I have been wearing a removable wig for 50 years! So the idea of having hair on my head all of the time has seemed strange, - to wear hair in the shower? to wear it to bed? to wear it swimming?
But to hundreds of our clients that is exactly what they want and need because they are used to having hair on all of the time.

So while part of me is still hesitant I am also actually very excited – the thought of going on a holiday and having hair on all of the time – to be able to swim without having to plan what I do about where to take of my wig and put on a swimming cap – to look and behave like everyone else – would be unbelievable. I missed out on things like snorkeling with my kids because of my hair situation – what I would give to have that opportunity again but without worrying about my hair!

I am choosing to start this journey with a CNC hair system after being asked by Cesare Ragazzi Laboratories in Italy to become their Australian partner to provide our clients with the world’s highest quality hair replacement system.

I have started the process with a head scan and a mold created by our US CR Lab partner and in a few months my new hair will be ready to install after being meticulously manufactured using the world’s highest quality hair and materials.
