😇 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY 😇
Inner strength - what is it? Where does it come from? How do we get more of it?
What is Inner strength?
Inner strength comes from within. It is drawing on our own internal experience, emotional regulation and self-belief. We need inner strength when we are going through tough times or when we are being challenged in some way.
Inner strength can come from;
- Our own personality traits (some of us are more stubborn than others!)
- Previous experiences - going through tough times in the past teaches us that we can survive! We can reflect on these and know that we can deal with what life throws at us
- Emotional regulation - our ability to draw on our own emotions, experience them and regulate to the situation
How do we get more inner strength?
- We need to validate our experience and emotions first - recognise what you are going through and why and allow that to be. For example, if you are experiencing a loss, of course you are going to feel sad and grieve about this
- Vent our emotions - to continue to have inner strength, we also need to let off the pressure valve every so often. Cry, chat to friends (or a therapist), exercise, punch a pillow! Breaking down is necessary to get back up
- Lean into your support network - inner strength doesn’t have to just come from within. We can gain the support of others to fill our own tank and remember what they have said to use again in the future
- Lifting weights - when you lift weights, you are challenging yourself. This also reminds us that we are physically strong, which serves as a great feedback loop to be mentally strong.
