โœ‹ hands up who plays the โ€˜comparison game?โ€™

You know the one where you see what other people are doing and you make yourself feel bad for not being as โ€˜goodโ€™ as them? ๐Ÿค”

This is the fastest way to destroy your peace and your own hard work.

If you find yourself doing this, notice it and recognise that we all move at our own pace.

Recognise your own growth and your own success.
Use this as motivation to continue along your own path ๐ŸŒฑ

๐Ÿ˜‡ WELLNESS WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿ˜‡

๐Ÿค” Living with uncertainty ๐Ÿค”

All of us face times of uncertainty.
Our brains crave predictability.
So when we donโ€™t know what is to come next, it is common to experience anxiety ๐Ÿคฏ

How do we deal with this?

The first step is to notice and validate how we feel.
โ€˜Itโ€™s ok that you are feeling anxious because you arenโ€™t sure of what is going to happen next.โ€™

We can calm ourselves through anxiety using:
1. Physiological system
- Calm the nervous system first: practice deep breathing and grounding strategies.
2. Cognitive system
- Then we can employ our cognitive system such as: reminding ourselves that we have been through times of uncertainty before and we have gotten through it
- We can plan for the best and worst case scenarios (then we will have an action plan for anything that occurs)
3. Behavioural activation
- plan for โ€˜worryโ€™: give yourself a time in the day that you are going to dedicate to worry or problem solving for this situation. Any other time that your mind brings up the concern, tell it to wait until your scheduled time (or write it down for later)
- Control what you can - think about actionable steps you can take here and now

Time will pass and your time of uncertainty will end. Continue to implement these steps until that time ๐Ÿ˜‡

๐Ÿ˜‡ WELLNESS WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿ˜‡

On New Yearโ€™s Eve, my friend and I set a goal to run 10km in an event held last weekend.

It was a big goal given I hadnโ€™t run since 2020 ๐Ÿ˜ณ and with holidays, I had about 8 weeks to train.

However this time, I set about achieving it from a lens of self-compassion ๐Ÿ˜‡

I trained according to how I felt.
I gave myself permission to stop if I needed to or to take a rest day.
I spoke to myself kindly on my runs, regardless of how I was performing that day.

Going into this event, I knew I could make the distance, as I had done it in training 4 times. However, I had set myself a time goal of under an hour (which I hadnโ€™t done).

I set out faster than I would usually and bought myself a buffer for the last 5km if I needed it.

At the 7km mark, my legs felt like jelly. I gave myself a little pep talk (you can see this in pic no 1).

It gave me the strength I needed to get through the last 3km and set my PB at 58:29 ๐Ÿฅณ

Life is quite like running.
It can feel very hard at times.
Itโ€™s also worthy of celebration.
In the moments in between, we need a little pep talk with compassion.

๐ŸŒฑ Build the life you want ๐ŸŒฑ

If you are stuck and not happy about something in your life, sit back and determine how you are going to change it (or perhaps change your attitude toward it).

We are capable of designing the life that we want. There will always be ups and downs and unexpected challenges, and we can rise and overcome these too.

Stop holding back.
Stop procrastinating.
Set the goal.
Take a tiny step towards it.
Build the life you want.

๐Ÿ˜‡ WELLNESS WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿ˜‡

Have you heard of the saying โ€˜where your attention goes, your energy flows?โ€™

Choose wisely what you want to pay attention to.
You have a precious 24 hours in the day - how do you want to spend it?

We can get caught up in mindless scrolling and other things that take our attention but what do they give back to us?

I discovered a free app called โ€˜ScreenZen.โ€™ This allows you to put boundaries on yourself for the use of apps on your phone. You can choose how many times you can open the app during the day and for how long.

It helps you make a conscious choice about whether you actually want to open the app and keeps you accountable for the time you are spending on it.

I highly recommend it if you are losing time in your phone and not engaging enough in the beautiful world around you ๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ˜‡ WELLNESS WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿ˜‡

I was just having this conversation with someone yesterday ๐Ÿข

When we compare ourselves to others, we are making an unfair comparison (cue apple v orange).

This means we can feel disappointed with our progress and efforts.

Instead, compare to yesterdayโ€™s version of you.
๐Ÿข what have you improved on?
๐Ÿข what skills have you learned?
๐Ÿข what goals have you achieved?

It doesnโ€™t matter how long you take, as long as you keep moving.

๐Ÿ˜‡ WELLNESS WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿ˜‡

Opportunities come and go.
Sometimes we are presented with an offer that seems pretty good.

What stops us from taking the opportunity?
- fear
- doubt
- anxiety
- feeling like itโ€™s not the right time or you need to do something else before hand

The biggest regrets can be opportunities missed.

So if you are wanting something in life, take the opportunity.
Take the risk.
Run toward seeing the sunset, because in a blink of an eye, itโ€™s gone.

๐Ÿ˜‡ WELLNESS WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿ˜‡

๐ŸŒฑSACRED TIME and SPACE๐ŸŒฑ

Everybody needs some sacred time and space to their day. This allows for some quiet reflection, peace, relaxation and space between activities.

Depending on your schedule and demands of the day, when you do this and how much time you get for this will different.

Personally, I take small amounts of time throughout the day.

You can do this in multiple ways:
- Driving in the car in silence
- Eating lunch in a quiet space without your phone or distractions
- Sitting outside with a tea or coffee
- Going for a walk without your phone
- Sitting down and reading a book
- Meditating or journalling

See when you can fit some small moments in your day. If you have extra time, you might want to do this for a longer period.

๐Ÿ˜‡ WELLNESS WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿ˜‡

- Would you know what to do if someone collapsed in front of you?
- Would you know how to help someone who is choking?
- Could you help to save a life?

Yesterday I completed my CPR refresher training. I hope I never have to use this skill but I feel so much more empowered that I know what to do if needed.

I now have a little mask that I carry on my key ring if itโ€™s ever needed.

If you donโ€™t know how to do these things, I strongly advise you to do the course. It is a great investment for you and your loved ones.

๐Ÿ˜‡ WELLNESS WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿ˜‡

In light of what is happening in the world right now, it is so important to be kind.

Look to your neighbour, your friends, the people around you and spread some kindness.

Be the light to brighten someone elseโ€™s day.

When you can be anything, be kind ๐Ÿ’œ
