𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧!
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Heatwave Warning, taking effect from tomorrow, Wednesday 7 January 2026 with further predictions of heat health alerts on Friday 09 January 2026.
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁:
· Drink plenty of water. Always take a bottle with you.
· Hot cars kill. Never leave kids, adults, or pets in cars. The temperature inside a parked car can double within minutes.
· Keep cool. Seek out air-conditioned buildings, draw your blinds, use a fan, take cool showers and dress in light and loose clothing made from natural fabrics.
· Plan ahead. Schedule activities in the coolest part of the day and avoid exercising in the heat. If you must go out, wear a hat and sunscreen, and take a bottle of water with you.
· Check-in on others. Look after those most at risk in the heat – your neighbour living alone, older people, children and babies, people with a medical condition and don’t forget your pets.
· Call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 606 024 or see your doctor if you are unwell.
· In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre is a community development and education services provider, neighbourhood house, and Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Our charity offers a suite of digital literacy courses, language and literacy programs, health and well being activities, occasional childcare, and opportunities for young people.
Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre had its origins in 1978 when staff at Broadmeadows Community Health Centre found many of their clients required language and literacy skills. The Council of Adult Education (CAE) was approached to train volunteer literacy tutors for an adult literacy program in Glenroy. The program, delivered by volunteers in the Glenroy Library, was one of the first in the country.
Since that time, some developments in the history of the organisation include:
Becoming a neighbourhood house in 1999.
Joining the Northern Adult Migrant English (AMEP) Consortium in 2003.
Delivering the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) from 2006 onwards following a successful history of providing courses for early school leavers.
Moving from Glenroy Library to Hartington Street then Nelson Street in 1989. In 2006, the organisation became part of a purpose built community services hub in Cromwell Street.
