Ever found yourself lying on the massage table, deeply relaxed… and then gurgle gurgle—your tummy decides to make itself known? You're not alone. Those sounds are a natural response and actually a good sign that your body is entering a healing state. Here’s why it happens:

Anatomically speaking, your massage is encouraging your body to shift into the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as "rest and digest." This state slows your heart rate and boosts digestive function—so your tummy gets to work. Massage also increases blood flow to the digestive tract, gently waking up the system. Plus, all that massage touch can stimulate peristalsis, the wave-like muscle movements in your intestines that move food and gas along. And if you're holding tension in your abdominal area, a massage helps release it, giving your gut more room to move and make noise.

On an emotional level, massage creates a sense of safety and calm. When you feel secure, your nervous system lets its guard down and your body can focus on functions like digestion. Also, massage often brings emotional release—so that grumble might be your body’s way of saying it’s letting go, both physically and energetically.

Do you find it difficult to slow your busy brain down during a massage treatment?

A busy mind in your massage will happen and it's OK.

You do not need to force your mind to be silent during a massage.

Instead, lean into the massage moment with no expectation of where your mind and thoughts may lead.

Whether your mind stays busy or drifts slowly, your body will still receive the care it needs.

Your time on the table is about allowing, not controlling.

Allow tension to soften.

Allow your body to rest.

Allow yourself to be held in a space where nothing more is asked of you.

One of the most common questions I receive from new clients is, “How much should I undress for my massage?” The answer is simple: whatever makes you feel comfortable.

➡️ Your comfort is my top priority, and there is no right or wrong when it comes to what you wear during a session. Some treatments may require more direct skin contact for optimal results, while others can be just as effective with certain clothing left on. If you're unsure, I will guide you through what can stay on based on the type of massage you're receiving.

➡️ Draping for Privacy and Warmth - Regardless of what you choose to wear (or not wear), professional draping techniques ensure you remain covered at all times. Only the area being worked on will be exposed, while the rest of your body stays draped for warmth, modesty, and security. This allows you to fully relax and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of your session without any discomfort or self-consciousness.

Exciting News: Life and Mind Massage has moved to Caulfield North!

I'm thrilled to announce that my therapeutic massage practice is opening its doors in a new location! Commencing January 29th, you can find Life and Mind Massage in a beautiful boutique allied health clinic in Caulfield North.

This move marks a new chapter for Life and Mind Massage, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. My new space is designed to offer a serene and welcoming environment, perfectly aligned with my mission to help you surrender into being cared for, feel positive change and restoration.

Nestled within a vibrant community of health professionals, this boutique clinic brings together like-minded practitioners committed to supporting well-being.

I can’t wait to welcome you to my new location and continue providing the personalised care you’ve come to know and appreciate from me.

Kindness is more than just a feel-good gesture; it’s a neurological powerhouse! When we engage in acts of kindness, our brains release a cocktail of feel-good chemicals, including oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin. These neurochemicals not only make us feel happier but also reduce stress and enhance overall mental well-being.
Oxytocin, often called the "love hormone," is released when we give or receive kindness. It strengthens social bonds and lowers blood pressure, supporting heart health. Dopamine, the brain's reward chemical, gives us a natural "helper’s high," boosting motivation and pleasure. Meanwhile, serotonin stabilizes mood, improves sleep, and promotes a sense of calm.
Kindness also has a ripple effect. Witnessing acts of kindness activates the brain's reward centers, encouraging others to pay it forward. This creates a positive feedback loop that strengthens community and connection.
Even small gestures like offering a compliment, helping someone in need, or simply smiling at a stranger can spark these neurological benefits. Over time, practicing kindness rewires the brain, making empathy and compassion second nature.
