🌸October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🌸
🩺 Early Detection Saves Lives! Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes. Regular screening and being vigilant about changes in your breast health are key.
🔍 Signs to Watch For - Be aware of the following symptoms, which mostly appear in the breast or underarm area:
🔹Lumps or thickened areas in the breast or underarm
🔹Changes in size, shape, or appearance of the breast
🔹Skin dimpling or redness
🔹Nipple discharge (other than breast milk)
🔹Persistent pain or tenderness in one part of the breast
🔹Unexplained swelling in part of the breast, even without a distinct lump
👩⚕️ Screening Recommendations - In Australia, the BreastScreen Victoria program offers free mammograms to those eligible. Visit their website to check your eligibility: www.breastscreen.org.au/
👩🔬 Risk Factors - While breast cancer can affect anyone, certain factors may increase risk. Such as:
🔹Age - Most breast cancers occur in women over 50. (BC does not discriminate and you should always be aware regardless of your age!)
🔹Family history - A family history of breast cancer can increase risk.
🔹Lifestyle factors - Diet, physical activity, and alcohol consumption can influence risk.
🧠 Support and Resources: If you or someone you know is affected by breast cancer, support is available via your GP or the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) Provides information and support.
