Ultrasounds can be confusing because seeing multiple follicles doesn’t always mean PCOS.

Follicles are a normal part of ovarian function. Your ovaries grow them every cycle as eggs mature. Some women naturally have more, and modern ultrasound machines can pick up even tiny ones. This can lead to scans being labelled as “polycystic,” even in women without hormonal imbalances or irregular cycles.

☕✨ Who likes their morning coffee?? Me! I do! It isnt very often that I will suggest taking coffee out of a client’s life. However, did you know when you drink your coffee is just as important as what you eat for breakfast?

In my last post we talked about starting the day with a protein–fat–slow carb balanced breakfast to support your hormones and energy. This works hand-in-hand with the timing of your morning coffee.

➡️ Drinking coffee too soon after waking can spike cortisol, throw off blood sugar, and leave you feeling anxious, tired or wired later in the day.
💡 Instead, aim for your coffee mid-morning (around 9:30–11am) so that it can support alertness without disrupting hormones.

Pairing your coffee with food is another hormone-friendly trick to steady your energy and keep your nervous system calm.

✨ Small changes like this = big wins for hormone health, PMS, anxiety, and sleep.

Do you drink your coffee first thing… or wait a little while? Let me know below 👇☕

🥑🍳 I hear a lot of debate about whether or not breakfast is really the most important meal of the day.

For hormone health? I say yes it is!!
Especially for so many women I see who struggle with:

✨ “Mum-rage” and emotional crashes
✨ Afternoon sugar cravings
✨ PMS symptoms
✨ Anxiety and low mood

Why? Because your first meal sets the rhythm for your blood sugar and cortisol balance. A balanced breakfast with protein, healthy fats + complex carbs supports steady energy, calmer moods, and fewer cravings later in the day.

Where does coffee fit into this equation?? See my next post :D

Got the MTHFR gene?

That might affect how your body clears hormones like oestrogen, but it doesn’t guarantee dysfunction.

We can test markers like homocysteine and B12 to see how your methylation is actually functioning.

Your genes are just the starting point, not your destiny.

Can MTHFR impact your thyroid function?

If you’ve got thyroid issues and MTHFR variants, it’s worth looking deeper. Methylation imbalances can affect T4 to T3 conversion, detoxification, and inflammation (all of which influence thyroid health).

The good news? There’s a lot that we can do with the right testing and nutritional support.

What Your MTHFR Gene Really Means

Just because you have the MTHFR gene variant…

doesn’t mean you automatically struggle to make DNA, hormones, neurotransmitters or methylate properly.

It simply tells us there's a potential for reduced function, not a guarantee of dysfunction.

That’s why we don’t just rely on genetic testing alone.

We can test markers like homocysteine, B12, folate to see how well your methylation is actually working in real time.

Your genes are only the blueprint.

🦋 Why we always check thyroid health in preconception care

When you see us for preconception care, you will notice that we will always investigate thyroid function.

The thyroid supports many different functions in the body- it influences energy, mood, metabolism, and hormones. But it also plays a vital role in fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum recovery.

✨ Balanced thyroid hormones help regulate ovulation and menstrual cycles.

✨ In early pregnancy, they are essential for healthy fetal brain and nervous system development.

✨ During pregnancy, demand on the thyroid naturally increases.

✨ After birth, hormonal and immune shifts can trigger postpartum thyroiditis.

Because thyroid changes can be subtle and easily missed, testing thyroid function before conception provides reassurance and helps to support a healthy pregnancy journey.
