Term 2 groups have been announced!

Get ready for another exciting term filled with new friendships, fresh challenges, and plenty of fun!

As we head into Term 2, we’re looking forward to building on the great start to the year with more opportunities for learning, teamwork, and confidence-building.

We also have two new groups launching OT Motor Skills and LEGO Legends, opening up even more ways for participants to get involved and develop new skills!

Please send through your expression of interest, including your child's name and group of interest via email to info@brightfaces.com.au as soon as possible. Enrolment forms will then be sent out via email to parents, with all enrolments required to be returned by March 27th, 2026.

We’re excited for another great term ahead and can’t wait to see everyone back!

🌟Sports Group Come & Try Day – Wednesday 1st April 2026 🌟

Suitable for children aged between 9-13 years.

We are inviting new participants who haven’t attended our Sports and Recreation Group before to join us for a special Come and Try session in the final week of Term 1.

This is a great opportunity for children to:
- Try fun sports activities
- Meet our team and other kids
- Build confidence in a supportive environment

If your child enjoys the session, you will have the opportunity to secure a place in our Sports and Recreation Group for Term 2.

To help ensure the group runs smoothly and is enjoyable for everyone, children should be comfortable participating in a small group, following therapist instructions and remaining with the group during activities.

At the end of the session, our therapists will provide feedback and let parents know if the group is a suitable fit for their child.

Limited to 6 participants to ensure the best support for each child.

Date: Wednesday 1st April 2026
Time: 4:00-5:00pm
Where: Unit 3/ 21 Reserve Road, Melton

Contact our admin team via email at info@brightfaces.com.au or phone 0410 207 995 to reserve a spot.

Places are limited, so please register early to avoid missing out.

DASH (Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting)

Measures handwriting speed and automaticity in school-aged children and adolescents. Tasks include copying, free writing, and alphabet writing under timed conditions. Helps determine whether slow or inefficient handwriting impacts academic participation.

Implications:
Identifies whether handwriting speed is significantly impacting academic output. Slow or effortful writing may indicate reduced automaticity, motor fatigue, or inefficient pencil control. Results support recommendations for handwriting intervention, classroom accommodations (extra time, reduced copying, typing options), and exam adjustments where needed.

Sensory Profile (e.g., Sensory Profile 2)

A caregiver or teacher questionnaire assessing a child’s sensory processing patterns and how these affect functional participation. Identifies sensory seeking, avoiding, sensitivity, and registration differences across environments. Supports understanding of behavior, regulation, and participation challenges.

Implications:
Identifies sensory seeking, avoiding, sensitivity, or registration patterns that may explain behavioral responses, regulation difficulties, attention challenges, or participation barriers. Guides environmental modifications, sensory strategies, and regulation supports rather than skill-based motor training alone. Useful for understanding “why” behind behavior and tailoring supports across home and school.

Bracken (Bracken School Readiness Assessment)

Evaluates early cognitive and concept development, focusing on foundational school-readiness skills such as colors, letters, numbers/counting, sizes, shapes, and comparisons. Used to screen for developmental delays and readiness for formal learning environments.

Implications:
Highlights delays in foundational pre-academic concepts that may affect early learning and classroom engagement. Results guide targeted early intervention, school readiness goals, and collaboration with educators or families to build cognitive and language-based concepts. Can help differentiate developmental vs purely motor concerns.

Beery VMI (Beery–Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual–Motor Integration)

Assesses how well a child coordinates visual perception with motor output, primarily through copying geometric shapes. Supplemental tests evaluate visual perception and motor coordination separately. Frequently used to understand handwriting readiness, drawing skills, and school-based fine motor performance.

Implications: Low VMI scores suggest difficulties with handwriting, drawing, copying from the board, spacing, and page layout. Discrepancies between visual perception and motor coordination scores help identify whether challenges are primarily perceptual, motor, or integrative. Results inform targeted intervention (e.g., fine motor control vs visual discrimination vs combined approaches).

BOT-2 (Bruininks–Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency)

A standardized assessment of gross and fine motor skills for children and young people. It measures areas such as balance, coordination, strength, running speed, manual dexterity, and fine motor precision/integration. Commonly used to identify motor delays, developmental coordination disorder, and to guide intervention planning.

Implications:
Results help determine the presence and severity of motor delays or coordination difficulties (e.g., DCD). Scores can explain challenges with playground participation, sports, self-care tasks (dressing, fasteners), and classroom skills (cutting, handwriting). Findings guide goals around strength, coordination, motor planning, and participation-based motor skill development, and may support referrals or funding justification.

Look for:

· Clumsiness, frequent tripping/falling
· Avoidance of sport or playground activities
· Poor balance or coordination
· Difficulty with ball skills or bilateral tasks
· Slow/inefficient fine motor tasks (cutting, manipulating tools, fasteners)
· Fatigue with physical activity
· Concerns about possible DCD
