February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

Ovarian cancer is often called a “silent” disease, not because symptoms are absent, but because early signs can be subtle and easily overlooked. Unfortunately, ovarian cancer therefore has the poorest survival rate of any female cancer with more than 70% of cases diagnosed at the advanced stage.

⚠️ Symptoms that warrant attention include persistent bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, feeling full more quickly than usual, and changes in bladder habits such as urgency or frequency. What matters clinically is not a single symptom, but a pattern: symptoms that are new, occur frequently, persist over time, and represent a change from what is normal for you.

There is currently no effective screening test making early detection very challenging.

The goal of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month is to raise awareness of the symptoms (early detection saves lives) and support women affected by this devastating disease.

🤔 Ever find yourself heading back to the bathroom again and again before bed? It’s a pattern many women describe, and it often has far more to do with the way the pelvic floor and bladder behave at the end of the day than with “weakness.”

🥱 By night-time, the pelvic floor can carry a surprising amount of tension from work, stress, and constant multitasking. When it doesn’t fully relax, the bladder may not empty as comfortably as it should, which can create the familiar feeling of needing to return soon after. The bladder is also more reactive in the evenings, and habits like frequent “just in case” trips or loading most of your fluid intake at night can further heighten urgency.

✅ Small adjustments often make a noticeable difference. A quiet, unhurried pre-bed toilet visit, relaxed belly breathing to release pelvic floor tension, and spacing your fluids evenly and earlier in the day can help the bladder settle more predictably. Reducing pre-emptive trips gradually also retrains the bladder to respond at more comfortable volumes.

It’s a very common experience, but it doesn’t have to be your nightly routine. Paying attention to tension patterns, fluid habits, and timing can support a calmer, more settled evening. Reach out if you need more support to calm your bladder or your pelvic floor 🩷

😎 Holiday check-in!

Have you connected with your pelvic floor this week? Don't forget those pelvic floor squeezes!

A few minutes of practice each day strengthens the urethral sphincter and supports bladder continence.

Your future self will thank you 🩷

⏰ A small holiday reminder: while everything else slows down, your pelvic floor still benefits from a few gentle squeezes.

Short, regular practice helps maintain urethral support and reduces continence issues as we age.

A quiet moment is all you need ☺️

Online bookings remain open throughout the Christmas break.
