As we wrap up 2025, we have been reflecting on the inservicing that has taken place at SWB this year. And wow, there has been a lot!

📚 Participation in the Women’s Health Training Association Research Update, ensuring our care remains aligned with current evidence and best clinical practice.
📚 A dedicated half-day, whole-team in-service focused on trauma-informed practice.
📚 Learning alongside valued guest speakers, including Jenny on hypopressives, Georgina from the Gidget Foundation on perinatal mental health, and endorsed midwife Tanya Bucknall. We loved having some extra women's health physiotherapists from other clinics join in for our guest speaker inservices ☺️
📚 Ongoing weekly case study discussions

We are committed to ongoing professional development at SWB, ensuring the women we support receive the most up to date, research based care. 🩷

On Friday night we shared a beautiful team dinner to mark the end of 2025, eating far too well at Lugarno Seafood Restaurant. We were predictably hopeless with photos 🙈, but this one of Anika and her very generous fish dinner captures the mood perfectly! 🎄❤️

Our team is precious, and nights like this remind us how fortunate we are to work alongside women who care deeply about each other and about the patients we support every day.

⏰ A gentle reminder for the festive season…

Between the end-of-year rush, family commitments and social events, the pelvic floor is often the last thing on anyone’s mind. But just a few minutes of pelvic floor practice each day can make a big difference, both now and as we age.

Regular pelvic floor muscle training has been shown to increase the thickness and contractile bulk of the internal urethral sphincter, supporting better urethral closure pressure and improving continence. This means a stronger clamp around the tube that empties our bladder to the outside world!

One MRI study demonstrated measurable hypertrophy (thickening) of the urethral sphincter after structured pelvic floor training, highlighting that these small muscles respond to consistent exercise just like any other muscle. We are NEVER too old to get stronger. 💪

🤔 Why does this matter?
Because maintaining pelvic floor strength through our 40s, 50s and beyond is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of future bladder leakage.💦

🎄 So if the festive season feels chaotic, consider this your gentle reminder ☺️
Take a quiet moment, perhaps waiting for the kettle, in the shopping line, or before bed, to practise your pelvic floor squeezes. Your future self will thank you 🩷

If you’re unsure where to start, or things don’t feel quite right, our physiotherapists are here to guide you.🩷

As we approach the end of the year, we wanted to share our Christmas break dates and extend our warmest wishes for the season.

Our final clinic day for 2025 will be Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24 December. Our reception team will return on Tuesday 6 January, and the clinic will reopen for appointments from Wednesday 7 January.

We hope this time brings rest, connection, and a little breathing space after a busy year. Thank you for trusting us with your care in 2025. We look forward to welcoming you back in early January, refreshed and ready to embrace 2026.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a gentle transition into the new year.

🌟 Top tips for keeping your bladder happy over the festive season.

💧 Bladders prefer to be drip-fed, so steady sipping is far more comfortable on your bladder than big bursts of fluid.

🙃 Some drinks can irritate bladders, this varies from person to person. Bubbly drinks, certain types of alcohol, and acidic options can sometimes increase urgency or frequency.

🤔 Don't forget, your bowel habits matter too. A high-fibre diet and good hydration help keep the bowels moving well, which in turn keeps the bladder calmer. Enjoy that fruit platter along with the cheese and crackers 🧀

🥂 And on hot days, try to balance the celebratory drinks with iced water.💦

🎄 Sip, space, and enjoy the season comfortably 🙂

It’s been a full and wonderful Monday at Secret Women’s Business Physiotherapy 🩷

Our team has spent the day supporting women at every age and stage. From pregnancy and early postnatal recovery, to pelvic pain, bladder and bowel care, pessary management and post-menopausal wellbeing. Our age range was from newborns to amazing 80 year olds in the clinic today! 💪

✍️ We’ve been writing individualised plans, celebrating progress, sharing stories, and yes, sneaking in a few newborn cuddles along the way. How lucky are we?!

Every day is different. We love supporting women through every chapter of life.

Notice for our friends.

Breast Screen is for people who haven't had breast cancer, nor have any signs or symptoms.
Or several years past completed treatments.

Those women who are 40-74 who want free , basic screening.

Please see your GP from age 25 for a breast cancer risk assessment , as you may need more screening than what Breast Screen offers, Some people need screening from an earlier age, or more frequent , or additional scan's such as ultrasound or MRI due to pre menopausal breast density and other health factors.

Breast cancer definitely can happen before age 40 and after 74.
It can also hide from a mammogram and other scans are almost always needed for detection and diagnosis.

🌸 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month... and it’s nearly gone! Have you booked your mammogram yet?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in NSW.

For women aged 50-74, a breast screen every two years is the best way to detect breast cancer early. A breast screen (also known as a mammogram) can find cancer before you notice a symptom. When breast cancer is caught early, there are more treatment options available, and there is a greater chance of survival. The reality is that the two biggest risk factors for developing breast cancer are simply being born female and getting older—9 out of 10 women diagnosed have no family history of the disease.

If not, now’s the time. Book a free screening with BreastScreen NSW here ➡ https://book.breastscreen.nsw.gov.au/

Let’s finish October strong, your health deserves it 🙂

We spent a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon celebrating the opening of Kurnell Family Medical Practice 💕 Congratulations to Dr Rebecca Hoffman and Dr Annalyse Crane and all the team from KFMP and WFMP on this exciting new chapter... a 3rd baby!

It was lovely to catch up with many other local health professionals (we are just hopeless with getting enough photos!) — and many more.
