Trying to conceive is often framed as a timing game…
but in clinic, I rarely see timing as the main issue.
It’s usually the foundations that haven’t been addressed yet.
Your cycle, blood sugar, nutrient status, stress physiology and environmental exposures all play a role in whether your body feels resourced enough for pregnancy.
And the truth is - you don’t need to be perfect.
But you do need to be aware.
Because small, consistent shifts in these areas can significantly change your fertility landscape over time.

I hear from new patients all the time that their concerns are dismissed or not fully explored in GP or specialist appointments. Things like wanting to come off hormonal contraception and being told “no” or being reassured that “everything is normal” when symptoms and blood work clearly say otherwise.

When your body is telling you something is off, it’s important not to override that instinct. Blood work can fall within reference ranges while still missing key functional imbalances, and symptoms always matter in the bigger picture. Seeking a second opinion or a different modality can sometimes be the step that brings real answers.

Trying to conceive can feel overwhelming when you don’t know where to start.

While every woman is different, these are some of the key tests I often recommend before pregnancy to help identify nutrient deficiencies, support hormone health, optimise energy and better prepare the body for conception.

Preconception care isn’t about perfection - it’s about giving your body the support it needs before pregnancy.

The 5 tests mentioned here include:
→ Iron studies + ferritin
→ B12 & folate
→ Vitamin D
→ Thyroid markers (including antibodies)
→ Iodine

Other tests I often recommend include hormones (particularly progesterone), zinc, MTHFR, homocysteine, HbA1c and fasting glucose.

One year ago I moved to the Sapphire Coast and I’m still in awe of what’s unfolded since. I never could have imagined that 12 months later I’d be running a multi-modality wellness clinic with 7 incredible practitioners, surrounded by a supportive community, aligned new friendships and a steady flow of dream patients committed to their health and achieving beautiful results. I’m still processing it all and feeling deeply grateful every day.

2026 is about practising what I preach and prioritising my own health. I’ll be heading to Bali soon for a much-needed retreat (my first holiday in 2.5 years) and will be restructuring my consulting hours - stay tuned.
