National Skin Cancer Action Week (21-27 Nov)

but also one of the lowest mortality-to-incidence of skin cancer in the world?

Thanks to those advocates, skin cancer and melanoma awareness has been raised up in Australia every year.

Although Australians are at one of the highest risk of skin cancer in the world due to its climate, proximity to the equator in addition to social attitudes of loving for outdoors.

We are also fortunate to have high detection level of skin cancer in this country rest of the world.

Our Registered Nurse Cassie Conaty has been working and training alongside Dr. Theris in the skin cancer clinic for 5 years. She is skilled in doing biopsies, excisions and can offer you education and skin cancer prevention.

Cassie is also trained and skilled in post-operative care and wound management. She has also been certified in the administration of cosmetic injections and can assist you with any enquiries about our cosmetic skincare range and sun cream. ☀️

Did you know that you are susceptible to sunburn when the UV index is 3 or higher? ☀️

🔵 WHY WE ARE WEARING FULL PPE 🔵

You may have noticed that all staff are now required to wear full PPE. As we open up, the possibility of COVID-19 cases visiting business is unfortunately a reality.

We don’t want this to get in the way of your healthcare. In accordance with Department of Health guidelines, full PPE is required to avoid having to isolate our staff and close the clinic.

We know it may look a little extreme and uncomfortable, but we hope that these measures will help keep our staff and patients safe.

🟡 CAN YOU SPOT THE MELANOMA? 🟡

We biopsied this patient’s mole and the results indicated that it was an early-stage melanoma.

If detected early more than 90% of melanoma cases can be successfully treated with surgery. Because we caught it early, it means we were able to excise the cancer before it spread.

The patient has generously granted us permission to share this in the hopes that it will prompt more people to get their skin checked by a professional regularly.

OUR PRINICIPAL PRACTITIONER:

Dr Nick Theris has practiced as a GP in the Bega Valley Shire since 1988, becoming interested in skin cancer treatments after learning that South Coast NSW had 1.4 times incidence rates of Melanoma compared to the rest of NSW.

This inspired Dr. Theris to attain postgraduate qualifications from the University of Queensland in skin cancer treatments, as well the Diploma of Skin Cancer Medicine and Skin Cancer Surgery from Bond University. Some of his other interests include Cosmetic Medicine for which he has been certified for over 10 years.
