🤒 Too Sick for School? Here’s a Quick Guide for Parents

If your child wakes up unwell on a school day, ask yourself:

✔ Can they stay awake and focus during lessons?
✔ Can they move around comfortably?
✔ Will they be a distraction to themselves or others?

📋 Official Exclusion Policies

Conditions like conjunctivitis, chicken pox, measles, mumps, scabies, and whooping cough have specific exclusion periods. Your GP or pharmacist can guide you on when it’s safe to return to school.

🤢 Gastro / ‘Tummy Bugs’

Keep them home until at least 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea — even if they seem better sooner.

🤧 RSV, Flu, COVID-19 & Respiratory Illness

Stay home until fever, aches, fatigue, breathing difficulties and more severe symptoms have passed.
A lingering cough alone is usually not contagious.

🪳 Head Lice & Threadworms

No official exclusion for threadworms, but they are contagious. Start treatment before returning to school or daycare — just like head lice.
