After many decades of dedicated service to Merriwa Pharmacy and the Merriwa community Jan is taking some extended leave before retirement.
This week is Jan’s final week before taking a well earned break.

Jan has been an integral part of Merriwa Pharmacy. The friendly face at the front counter, a helping hand to guide our patients through all their bumps, bruises and ailments and a quiet reassurance for those just needing advice.

Her commitment to customers will be missed by both our team and those who have the pleasure of knowing her.

Jan has always gone the extra mile to ensure our customers get what they need - especially including her many hours on the phone chasing special products for customers and Diabetes Australia orders.

We would like to publicly thank Jan for her many years of service and dedication and wish her all the best for her retirement.

At this stage we do not have any stock of the Nasal Spray influenza vaccine (government funded for 2-4 year olds) - this immunisation is currently available from your local doctors.

Vaccination Clinic - Wednesday 25th March 9am-12.30pm

JE is a rare but serious illness spread by infected mosquitoes. While many people experience mild illness, it can cause severe neurological illness with headache, convulsions and reduced consciousness and in rare cases can be fatal.

The virus was most recently detected by NSW Health in sentinel chicken surveillance testing at Hay on 25 February 2026.

“There is no specific treatment for JE virus so prevention through vaccination is essential," Ms Glasgow said.

“People planning to travel to the high-risk regions in the school holidays should have a discussion with their vaccination provider as soon as possible, as protection from the vaccine can take up to two weeks to develop."

JE vaccine is available through local general practitioners (GPs), Aboriginal health services and pharmacists.

People living, working or planning an outdoor trip to high-risk LGAs should make an appointment and let healthcare provider know it is for the JE vaccine ahead of time, as the vaccine may need to be ordered.

A booster dose may be recommended for some people with ongoing risk of exposure one to two years after completing their primary course.

This week is Louise’s final week at Merriwa Pharmacy as she retires after more than 20 years as our dispense tech.
Over the years, Louise has been a big part of the pharmacy—bringing experience, reliability, and a friendly face that so many of our customers have come to know and trust.
Thank you, Louise, for your dedication and all the care you’ve given over the years. You’ll certainly be missed.
