Children are especially vulnerable because their crystalline lenses are clearer—letting more UV reach the retina.
It is critical that everyone wears sunglasses outdoor - maybe not to sleep - very cute though 😉😎
UV light is invisible to the eyes, and the main source is the sun. Up to 90% of UV rays can still pass through clouds, which means UV-related eye and skin damage can happen even on cloudy days.
UV-B (280–315 nm) mainly affects the eye’s surface and can cause sunburn to the cornea (photokeratitis), sunburn to the white part of the eye (photo-conjunctivitis), and even eyelid sunburn. Long-term exposure contributes to premature skin aging and increases the risk of skin cancer around the eyes and eyelids.
UV-A (315–380 nm) penetrates deeper into the eye and can lead to oxidative stress that causes retinal damage over time.
