Yesterday, on World Su***de Prevention Day, MT participated in the Out Of The Shadows walk held by .
9km to remember the 9 Australian’s lost to su***de every day and acknowledge the pain for those left behind..
I walked for my friends who’ve lost loved ones to su***de..
There is still a lot of stigma and ignorance creating barriers to people accessing the support and help they deserve..
If you are a person in distress, reach out to .
If you are concerned about someone - engage, listen and connect them with care.

Helping patients on their recovery journey’s back to full health is something I feel blessed to be able to assist with. The road there is never normally linear, but I 100% believe what I said, “Your body is strong, your body is adaptable, your body is resilient, you will be okay.” Proud of you 💛.

・・・
From bulging a disc 5 years ago, to a sacroiliac joint injury and flare ups constantly for years, I never thought I would be able to get strength back again. I was a personal trainer for 10 years, and to be honest, I gave up, thinking my body would always be screwed. I gave up on exercise since Covid.. never really getting anywhere before I injured myself again or wouldn’t be able to walk because of a tweak in my back.

But I can now say, after 7 weeks of reformer Pilates (something I never thought I would be doing or interested in) I’m starting to gain some strength, and motivation back. With the support of my amazing osteo and her words “Your body is strong, your body is adaptable, your body is resilient, you will be okay.”

Don’t let injuries hold you back, or anything for that matter. My mental health has been so much better the last few weeks, finally exercising again and not letting my excuses get in the way. It was scary, and I still have little flare ups but I’m much better at managing it mentally and physically.

My ultimate goal would be to get back into powerlifting one day, but I’m in no rush and finally willing to listen to my body.

So just do it girl, sign up for the class, go for that walk, get in the pool, do whatever it takes.. no matter how small. You got it.

09/08/2022

A superior labrum anterior posterior (SLAP) tear, is an injury to the labrum of the shoulder. The shoulder is known as a “ball and socket” joint, and the socket portion of the shoulder joint is called the glenoid. The labrum is the strong fibrocartilage which surrounds the rim of the glenoid, deepening the socket for the head (ball) of the humerus (upper arm bone) to sit in and providing stability for the joint. The labrum also serves as an attachment point for many ligaments of the shoulder..
In a SLAP injury, the top (superior) part of the labrum is injured. This top area is also where the long head bicep tendon attaches to the labrum. A SLAP tear occurs both in front (anterior) and back (posterior) of this attachment point. The biceps tendon can be involved in the injury, as well.
Injuries to the superior labrum can be caused by acute trauma or by repetitive shoulder motion. An acute SLAP injury may result from:
• A motor vehicle accident.
• A fall onto an outstretched arm.
• Forceful pulling on the arm, such as when trying to catch a heavy object.
• Rapid or forceful movement of the arm when it is above the level of the shoulder.
• Shoulder dislocation.
Many SLAP tears, however, are the result of a wearing down of the labrum that occurs slowly over time. In patients over 30 to 40 years of age, tearing or fraying of the superior labrum can be seen as a normal process of aging..
Symptoms of a SLAP tear may include:
• A locking, popping, catching, or grinding sensation.
• Pain with movement of the shoulder or with holding the shoulder in specific positions.
• Pain with lifting objects, especially overhead.
• Decrease in shoulder strength.
• A feeling that the shoulder is going to "pop out of joint".
• Decreased range of motion.
Treatment for SLAP tear’s may include: NSAIDs, manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation or surgery.

07/08/2022

Adhesive capsulitis, commonly known as “frozen shoulder”, is characterised by stiffness, pain and limited range of movement of the shoulder joint. For some individuals, this condition can last 1-3 years, and while it’s unusual for adhesive capsulitis to reoccur in the same shoulder, for some, it can develop in the opposite shoulder..
This condition causes fibrosis of the glenohumeral (shoulder) joint capsule, especially the coracohumeral ligament, and is accompanied by gradually progressive stiffness and significant restriction (typically external rotation), in both active and passive range of movement. The current hypotheses for adhesive capsulitis is persistent functional limitations of the shoulder when left untreated..
Adhesive capsulitis can be either primary or secondary. Primary adhesive capsulitis onset is often idiopathic (no attributable reason), and there are three sub-categories which contribute to secondary adhesive capsulitis.
1. Systemic (diabetes mellitus and other metabolic conditions).
2. Extrinsic factors (cardiopulmonary disease, cervical disc, CVA, humerus fractures, Parkinson’s disease).
3. Intrinsic factors (rotator cuff pathologies, biceps tendinopathy, calcific tendinopathy, AC joint arthritis)..
Here is a patient practicing a shoulder mobility exercise to help improve shoulder range of movement.

WHAT IS MUSCULOSKELETAL THERAPY (MST)/MYOTHERAPY?

Musculoskeletal Therapy (MST) is a functional, manual therapy which examines the body holistically through a multisystem approach to assessment and treatment. Treatments are specific to the individual, with a focus on improving the function of nerves, muscles, joints and biomechanics based on examination findings and presentation. Treatments include manual therapy techniques, follow-up care, client education, rehabilitation exercises and information aimed towards pain relief and long-term results.

MST assists to alleviate and prevent pain, enhance joint movement and muscle performance, correct postural imbalances, assist the body pre-surgery, rehabilitation post-surgery or injury, management of acute or chronic pain conditions and pre or post-natal care.
