I had a traumatic childhood, which left me with very shaky self-worth. As a result of the trauma, I had a breakdown when I was 15 that my parents didn't/couldn't acknowledge or see. A compassionate teacher at my school saw though, and gave up his school-day breaks to help me (How lovely is that?!)
It has taken me until my fifties and a great deal of healing (therapy, yoga, teaching yoga, embracing my spirituality) to get to the point where I can reclaim my worth, and understand that my worth is inherent, and not dependent on whether people love me or care about me, what I do or achieve, how people act or treat me, or what people think about me.
I am telling you this because I want to be the compassionate teacher for children who struggle with self-worth. My goal for my yoga children's book Ursula the Roly Poly Unicorn is for it to help children who have had rocky beginnings with their self-worth, like me. The book's message for children is that they are precious and worthy just as they are.
The book uses the story and body movements/body therapy/yoga as positive and empowering tools. It aims to encourage children to believe in themselves, confront challenges and do hard things, embrace individuality, and cultivate self-love and compassion.
The book can be purchased via Amazon, 42yoga.com.au or sminkworksbooks.com as a paperback or hardback. There is also a resource pack available for teachers/children's yoga teachers (see the 42 Yoga website). Please share the link with anyone in contact with children who would benefit. (Thank you for helping spread the word)
P.S. You don't have to be a child to struggle with this! YOU are precious and worthy!
