This meal was not “low in calories” but it still fit within my energy needs and it also managed my hunger, preventing the need to overeat for the rest of the day (which tends to happen when you try to eat low calorie options all day)!
The intention behind this meal wasn’t weight loss, it was getting lots of nutrients and having a tasty dinner!
For some reason - “healthy” food (ie. foods that offer lots of essential nutrients for our bodies) have become associated with being on a diet of the alternative option.
So if someone brought some carrots, hummus and hard boiled eggs in for a snack at work - 1. everyone would probably be mad at you for eating eggs in the office and 2. someone is bound to say “oh someone’s being healthy/good today”.
The food industry has become full of packaged, ultra-processed, convenience foods, and there’s somewhat a good reason for this as our lives are a lot busier now - but they’ve taught us (or ‘manufactured’ food) to prefer the taste of this over the real fresh stuff that is actually looking after our bodies.
So just because you’re eating healthy foods, it doesn’t mean you’re ‘on a diet’. You’re choosing options that you know are going to benefit you, make you feel great, taste great and with the added bonus of managing your weight in a healthy range.
