🌕 Tonight’s Buck Moon: the farthest full moon of 2025! 🦌
July’s Full Buck Moon gets its name from the season when male deer grow their new antlers — a symbol of growth and renewal. But tonight’s moon is extra special: it’s the farthest full moon of the year, coming just days after Earth’s aphelion (its farthest point from the Sun).
This year, it also aligns with a rare Major Lunar Standstill, making its path low and wide across the southern sky. Look for a glowing golden orb rising in the east just after sunset, skimming the horizon through the night before setting in the southwest by dawn.
✨ Why the golden glow?
When the Moon is low, its light travels through more of Earth’s atmosphere. This scatters the shorter blue light and lets warm reds and oranges shine through — just like a sunset.
Don’t miss this rare and luminous sight — step outside at moonrise, face east, and watch the golden Buck Moon rise over the horizon.
