Sunraysia Community Health Services (SCHS) is a publicly funded health service, in Mildura, Victoria, 550 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. SCHS takes a holistic approach to the needs of clients and the community with an emphasis on continuous quality improvement and excellence in service delivery based on the principles of collaborative primary care. SCHS has been operating in the Sunraysia area since 1976. A not for profit organisation, employing over 200 staff, SCHS offers Mildura and surrounding communities in excess of 50 different services. With temperatures climbing to 45 degrees over the next couple of days, it’s important to take extra care during this extreme heatwave. 🔥

Here are some simple tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:
💧 Stay Hydrated - Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty.
🌡️ Avoid the Heat - Stay indoors during peak heat (usually between 11am and 3pm).
👕 Wear Lightweight Clothing - Light-coloured, loose clothing helps keep your body cool.
💖 Check on Vulnerable People - Look in on the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
🏠 Cool Down Your Home - Close blinds and curtains, and use fans or air conditioning if possible.
📲 Stay Informed - Keep up with weather updates and heat advisories for your area.

It’s crucial to never leave pets or children in a locked car, and don’t forget to check the UV index for sun safety 🌞💪

The hot weather is hanging around for the next couple of days, so here are some key tips to help you stay safe and beat the heat! ☀️

💧 Drink water, even if you’re not thirsty.
🧢 Wear a hat & light breathable clothes.
🏖️ Stay in the shade and avoid the sun between 10 AM - 4 PM.
🧴 Use sunscreen (SPF 50+).
💦 Take a dip, splash water on your face, or use a cool towel.
🍉 Snack on hydrating foods such as watermelon, cucumber, and strawberries.
🚶‍♂️ Take it easy and avoid heavy activity in the heat.

If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or confused, seek cool shelter, drink water, and get medical help.

Extreme heat affects everyone, but older adults, children, pregnant women, and pets are especially at risk, so check on one another and stay safe out there!

Our story

Sunraysia Community Health Services takes a holistic approach to the needs of clients and the community with an emphasis on continuous quality improvement and excellence in service delivery based on the principles of collaborative primary care.

SCHS has been operating in the Sunraysia area since 1976. A not for profit organisation, employing over 170 staff, SCHS offers Mildura and surrounding communities in excess of 50 different services. These services are predominantly provided from our new purpose-built facility on the corner of Thirteenth Street and Deakin Avenue Mildura. We also deliver services at the HECHT Adult Activity Centre, Day Break progam (Deakin Avenue) and in-home care.
