Alana, Josie, a helping friend and some movers spent most of the weekend packing, moving and sorting our furniture and materials from suite 5 to suite 2. We are really happy in our new room so far, a couple things still to sort but ready to begin again today! 💖

✨We’re Moving - BUT not far! ✨
After a busy few months, we’re excited to share that Yellow Gum Art Therapy Studio is moving just a few doors down from Suite 5 to Suite 2 🌿

Same warm, creative space, just a refreshed home for our Finding Wellbeing team 💙
We’re open Monday to Saturday and continuing both studio and outreach sessions as usual.

Our new space officially opens this Monday, and we can’t wait to welcome you in for new beginnings (and a little makeover coming later in 2025 👀).

🐾 Evie has already approved the move!

We are proud to be part of a diverse community. We stand firmly against bigotry, fascism, racism, sexism, transphobia, and all forms of hate. Our space is committed to respect, inclusivity, and kindness for everyone.

WCC recognises and celebrates the contribution of migrant and refugee communities who have contributed so much to the local community and enriched our lives in many ways. Racism and discrimination causes serious harm and has no place in Australia, as such, WCC reaffirms our commitment to people's right to live free from fear, discrimination and intimidation.

If you experience racism or discrimination and would like information and support please contact the Whittlesea Anti-Racism Support Service on 9401 6666 or eantonetti@whittleseacc.org.au

🏠 A tiny world made with paper clay characters and a house built from plaster and cardboard, co-created by our art therapists alongside clients as they made their own mini figures.

In our studio, we offer space to build characters, explore identity, and create symbols with personal meaning, helping tell the story of our experiences in a way that feels safe and supported.

Using sculpture and play in therapy can allow clients to express emotions, relationships and inner worlds when words feel out of reach. It’s a process that’s self-directed, meaningful, and helps externalise our inner emotional world.

At Yellow Gum Art Therapy Studio, we support creative processes that help people feel seen, heard and empowered through making, not just talking.

🦄✨ Studio assistant Evie was in full unicorn mode this week, keeping warm and quietly holding space from her chair as the art therapy process unfolded.

Evie is such a loved part of Alana's counselling and art therapy sessions. Sometimes the simple presence of a therapy dog resting nearby and watching gently can be the co-regulation a client needs to feel safe enough to create, share or just be. 🐶

Beads, wire, texture and choice.
Beading is one of the many creative regulation activities we offer in the studio. The focus and repetition can be calming, while the process itself often opens space for connection and conversation, especially for topics that may feel hard to talk about.

For some clients, beading may become more than just an activity in the therapy space. It can spark a new passion or even replace past negative coping behaviours with something that feels safe, expressive and self-directed.

There’s no right or wrong in our studio, just space to create, connect and be supported.

🦋 This bead-embroidered butterfly has been a long-term creative project that Alana, one of our art therapists, began a few years ago and only recently completed. It came together slowly, in spare time and during open studio art therapy sessions, especially when others were drawn to stitching, beading, or sewing projects of their own.

Like many things in life, it was slowly and gradually worked on, small steps at a time, and returned to with care, presence, and patience.

It’s a gentle reminder of the work we do together in therapy. Whether it’s using art for processing emotions, working on life goals or mental health recovery, we support clients to take things step by step, reflecting, healing, and building skills toward a better life.

Part of trauma, whether it’s medical trauma, discrimination and stigma, or abuse, is the way it shapes our inner world. It can leave behind harsh internalised messages that echo long after the event. In art therapy we gently begin to notice, name, and rework those messages.

Starting with “I AM” at the centre, we reflect on the messages we most need right now: things we hope to believe about ourselves, truths we already know but forget, affirmations that once helped or still do, and words that speak to our worth, strength, and enoughness.

This isn’t about forced positivity. It’s about finding language that feels safe and true for you.

I Am Affirmation Collage ✨

Collage is a powerful process in Art Therapy. It helps us find images and words that resonate with our inner world. By choosing what speaks to us, we tap into our subconscious, express emotions, and connect more deeply with self.

This I Am collage is a simple yet meaningful way to affirm who we are. What words would you choose for yours?
