Day 16 Post-Op: L5/S1 Artificial Disc Replacement

We're well into recovery now and today is the day that I realized my back now feels better then it did pre-surgery! Nerve pain is gradually improving too which is the main reason why I sought surgery.

Still some soreness in my abdomen from the anterior approach. I've been focusing on daily walks – started short, now up to 20-30 minutes without too much fatigue. No twisting, heavy lifting, or BLT (bending, lifting, twisting) moves – following rules strictly!

If you're considering ADR or going through it, hang in there – the early days are tough, but it gets better. 💙

Day 5 Post L5 Artificial Disc Replacement

Honestly, today was beautifully uneventful… and I’ll take it! 😂

Walked a little farther than yesterday (made it all the way around the block twice without feeling like I was auditioning for a zombie movie).

Highlights of the day:
✅ Walked ~15 minutes x 3
✅ Zero pain meds besides the scheduled ones ✅ Took a real shower standing up like a normal human

2pm naps are still a real thing 😂

Shoutout to everyone who’s been texting & sending memes.

5 days down, stronger every day 👌

Day 4 Post-Op Update

✅ Still moving cautiously, but today felt like a small win

I can actually sit for more than 5 minutes without feeling like I need to lay down

Took my first proper shower (no more hospital gown without un**es! 😆) and it felt like absolute luxury

Going to the toilet is officially a little less dramatic

Pain remains but mobility and strength is returning. Super grateful for all the messages & everyone checking in on me 🫶 Slow progress is still progress

Day 3 Post L5-S1 Artificial Disc Replacement.

Walked my first proper lap around the ward… WITHOUT the walking frame 😭🙌 Three days ago I was wheeled out of theatre barely able to stand. Today the physio took the frame away and said “whenever you’re ready.” I stood up, took one VERY slow step after another. I was waiting for the ward to arupt into applause & cheers but there was none 😂

If you’re reading this scared about ADR surgery – I was you last week. The fear is real.

🎥 48 hours post-op from lumbar spine disc replacement ... and I’m honestly shocked 😳 Harder then I thought but little progressions each day. Yesterday I could barely stand. Now? I walked around using a frame.

Yes, I’m still sore, moving slow, and taking it one careful step at a time. Nerve pain generally remains unchanged. To everyone scared about spine surgery: I was anxious too 🙏🏼💙

Patellofemoral Pain? Here’s How a Therapist Checks It Out.

1️⃣ History - When did the pain kick in? Stairs? Squats? Sitting too long? Any clicks, swells, or old injuries? Your story guides the whole exam.

2️⃣ Standing Assessment
Feet forward, we scan alignment:
- Q-angle (hip-to-kneecap line)
- Flat arches or high arches?
- Knock-knees or bow-legs?
- Hip drop when you single-leg stand?

3️⃣ Patella Mobility Check
On the plinth, we gently glide your kneecap:
↔️ Side-to-side
↕️ Up-down
Any grinding (crepitus) or pain = red flag.

4️⃣ Muscle Power & Length Tests
- Quad strength: Can you hold a straight-leg raise?
- VMO lag: Does the inner quad fire late?
- Hamstring/hip flexor tightness: Thomas test on the table.

5️⃣ Palpation - Tender under the kneecap edges? ITB tight? Fat pad irritated?

💡 Goal: Rule out meniscus, ligaments, or referral pain. Then build your custom fix—taping, glutes, or quad drills.
