Easy for George to say - he was busy creating plays, manifestos and an impressive beard 🧔🏻‍♂️. But he’s got a point. We’re not waiting to stumble across some finished version of ourselves hiding under a rock 🪨. We’re building, shaping, adjusting (sometimes literally) muscle by muscle, joint by joint, vertebra by vertebra 🦴.

At its heart, osteopathy is about helping you create a life that moves well, feels strong, and supports what you want to do 💪. Not just finding comfort, but building it.

So let’s keep creating. One good movement at a time.

📊 Did you know?

🦴 Up to 37 million fragility fractures occur globally each year in people over 55. That’s nearly 70 fractures every minute.

These aren’t high-impact injuries, they’re often caused by everyday slips, minor bumps, or even coughing. The culprit? Often osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones and makes them more prone to break.

Osteopaths work to support bone health by improving mobility, posture, and balance; key factors in preventing falls. We also encourage early screening and lifestyle changes that support bone density.
Your bones do a lot for you. Let’s make sure they stay strong enough to keep up. ☎️ Give us a call on 9437 9555 to make an appointment with our osteopaths and acupuncturists at IBHC. We’re here to help.

Quick Exercise: Tricep Dips

Got a chair and two minutes? Then you've got yourself a tricep workout. 💪

Tricep dips target the muscles at the back of your upper arm, but they also help support shoulder stability and posture, especially if you’re prone to slouching over a desk all day.

Sit on the edge of a sturdy chair, hands next to your hips. Slide forward and lower your body by bending your elbows, then press back up. Keep the movement slow and controlled - no collapsing into the floor, please.

Start with 8–10 reps, and keep the shoulders away from your ears!

📚 Word of the Day: Ganglion Cyst

/ˈɡæŋ.ɡli.ən sɪst/

Sounds like something out of a Greek epic… “The Ganglion has risen!”, but it’s actually a squishy, jelly-filled lump that tends to pop up near joints and tendons, especially around the wrist.

🧠 Etymology time! “Ganglion” comes from the Greek ganglion, meaning “knot” or “lump of tissue”, which is exactly what it looks like. Not very poetic, but impressively accurate.

Ganglion cysts are usually harmless, but they can be annoying, especially when they press on a nerve or limit movement. While once upon a time the go-to treatment was hitting them with a Bible (seriously), today we prefer gentler methods. Your osteopath won’t bring a holy book, but they will look at joint strain, biomechanics, and soft tissue tension that may be contributing to the problem.

If your wrist has grown a mysterious squishy sidekick, don’t panic - just book in.

And to be absolutely sure you are getting the best care possible, we will liaise with your GP to ensure an accurate diagnosis so it can be managed properly from all sides.

🌟We are so excited to welcome our newest Superstar Osteo Ilianna to the clinic🌟

Here's a little introduction :)

Ilianna's passion for helping individuals recover from injuries began at a young age, following a personal back injury sustained through gymnastics. This experience sparked a lifelong interest in the human body and its capacity for healing.

Ilianna graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Health Science / Bachelor of Applied Science, majoring in Osteopathy and has been practicing for over 7 years in Melbourne. Her background in competitive sports and academic training has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of human biomechanics and how to optimise physical performance and recovery.

Ilianna has a particular interest in posture-related conditions such as headaches and shoulder dysfunction, as well as pelvic alignment issues, girdle pain, acute and chronic pain management, rib-related injuries, and sports rehabilitation.

Outside of her clinical practice, Ilianna enjoys travelling, connecting with people from diverse backgrounds, and exploring her interest in wine—considering herself an enthusiastic amateur connoisseur.

She will be joining us on Tuesdays :)

Lest We Forget 🌺

On ANZAC Day, we pause to honour and remember the brave men and women who served our country. Their courage and dedication remind us of the importance of resilience and strength, not just in times of war, but in everyday life.

Today, we reflect on the values of perseverance, teamwork, and commitment that define both our history and the way we approach challenges in our own lives. 💪

As we pay tribute, let’s also take a moment to care for ourselves - both mentally and physically - and recognise the sacrifices made by others for the freedoms we enjoy today. 🌿

Exercise of the Day: Calf Raises 🦵
Want to step up your strength? Calf raises are a simple yet effective way to build power in your lower legs. Start with double-leg raises:

👉 Stand tall, feet shoulder-width apart.
👉 Lift your heels off the ground, rising onto your toes.
👉 Slowly lower back down.

Ready for a challenge? Progress to single-leg raises to really fire up those calves!

Strong calves support your balance, improve walking and running mechanics, and reduce injury risk. If tightness or discomfort is holding you back, our osteopaths can help get you moving.

What’s your go-to lower leg exercise? Let us know below! 👇

Let’s talk about something that’s often whispered about—pelvic floor dysfunction. It happens when the muscles that support your bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs get out of whack - either too weak or too tight. When they're too weak, they can't support these organs properly, leading to issues like incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. On the other hand, if the muscles are too tight, it can cause pelvic pain, discomfort, or even difficulty with bowel movements. 😟

But don’t worry—we can help! Our osteopaths assess the root cause, whether it’s weakness, tightness, or poor alignment, and create a tailored treatment plan to restore balance. 🌟
We combine strengthening exercises for the pelvic floor with relaxation techniques—yes, relaxation is just as important as strengthening! 🧘‍️💪

It's time to take control of your pelvic health! Call us at IBHC on 9437 9555

🦴 Fun Fact Friday: Meet Your Mighty Femur! 💪

Your femur, or thigh bone, isn’t just any bone—it’s the longest and strongest bone in your entire body! Measuring around 19 inches on average, it can withstand up to 30 times your body weight in force. That’s some serious strength!
This powerhouse supports your every step, jump, and dance move. But even the mightiest bones need TLC. If you’re feeling stiff or experiencing discomfort in your hips or knees, our osteopaths can help keep you moving smoothly.

What’s your favourite fun fact about the human body? Drop it below! 👇

How Can We Help? 🦵

Got a groin strain that’s putting a pause on your sports game or daily routine? Ouch! 🤕 Groin strains happen when those inner thigh muscles stretch too far (or try to do too much), and suddenly, you’re limping instead of sprinting! 🏃⚽

But don’t worry—we’ve got you! Our osteopaths will check out the cause of the pain, help to realign your pelvis and spine, and give you personalised exercises to help get you back to your best. Think of it like giving your body a little tune-up! 🔧💪

If you're tired of feeling like a hobbling penguin, call IBHC on 94379555 and let’s get you back to full speed!
