Mastering resistance band rows for a stronger back! 💪

Looking for an effective at-home workout that requires minimal equipment? Yes please! Our exercise focus of the month: resistance band rows! 🚣🏾

Start by securing a resistance band to a sturdy anchor, like a sturdy pole. Hold the band with an overhand grip, step back to create tension, and pull the band towards your waist while keeping your elbows close to your body. Focus on squeezing your shoulder blades together and maintaining a controlled motion throughout.

Resistance band rows target your upper back muscles, enhancing posture, and boosting strength in the muscles responsible for shoulder stability.

Ensure the band is securely anchored and choose a resistance level that challenges without straining. Keep your back straight and engage your core to prevent excessive arching.

If you have any concerns or aches and pains that are stopping you from getting the exercise you need, give us a call 📞 on [insert phone number here] to make an appointment so we can get you rowing towards a stronger back!

🌿 Embrace the Rhythm of Revitalisation with Movement! 🌟💃

In the dance of life, movement is our melody—our body's rejuvenating rhythm that breathes vitality into our existence.

Why? Okay - in all seriousness, movement isn't just a physical act; it's a profound catalyst for well-being. When we move, our body releases a cascade of biochemicals—endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine—commonly known as "feel-good" neurotransmitters. These chemicals play a vital role in mood regulation, reducing pain perception, and promoting a sense of well-being. Additionally, movement stimulates blood flow, delivering oxygen and nutrients to cells while aiding in the removal of metabolic waste. Regular physical activity even promotes neuroplasticity, enhancing brain function and cognitive abilities. In essence, movement is a holistic elixir that nurtures both body and mind, elevating our spirits and fostering a profound sense of vitality and happiness.

Yet, when life's tempo hits a pause—be it injury or a sedentary phase enforced by illness or work deadline —our body yearns for that movement once more. We know we need to get moving because we feel so stuck. But it can be hard to get started again – since we’ve lost cardiovascular fitness and everything is a bit sore and stiff! Enter osteopathy, the gentle conductor guiding us back into the fluidity of movement.

With tailored therapies and expert care, osteopaths restore the body's natural harmony, coaxing joints to glide, muscles to flex, and spirits to soar! It's the reawakening, the return to that joyous dance of life.

Ready to rediscover movement vitality? Call us today on 094379555 to book your appointment at Inner Balance and let our team of osteopaths guide you back to movement! ✨

Back-to-School Readiness: Tips for a Healthy Start! 🍎📚

And the whirlwind of back-to-school preparations begins: It's a busy and exciting time. Kids (and parents) might start feeling a bit frazzled. Check out our tips for a healthy, smooth start to the school year.

🔑 Make sure the line of communication are open. For primary-aged students, start using their teacher's name in conversation as soon as you know it so they get used to it and the idea of belonging to a class before school even starts. Talk to them about your experiences at school and invite them to talk to you about their hopes, nerves, and goals for the year to come. If anxiety creeps in think about adding a few kid specific mindfullness exercises to the end of holiday agenda.

🍎 Get them into some healthy snacking routines now by packing a healthy lunchbox each day even if they're at home. Better yet - get them to pack them themselves so they have ownership and pride in their healthy choices. (Bonus - parents can get on with work and chores without being interrupted for a snack every few minutes!)

🖥️ Get an ergonomic homework zone set-up now. Maybe there's a dedicated study space for older kids or maybe you agree that the dining room table will be the communal homework space. It's a good idea to talk about ergonomics and make a plan - before the avalanche of homework arrives!

We hope you have a healthy, happy transition back to school. Don't forget that little ones can also benefit from osteopathy during this time too. Whether there's been too much couch surfing resulting in a sore, stiff back or whether they've overdone it perfecting their cartwheels in the back garden, we're here to make sure they're fighting fit for the new academic year. Give us a call on 94379555 to make an appointment.

🦴 Exploring Ligaments: The Unsung Heroes of Stability! 💫

Did you know? Your body houses around 900 ligaments, these incredible connectors that stabilise joints and hold bones together. Yet, when it comes to injuries, a few notorious ones often take the spotlight—think ACLs in the knee and ankle ligaments.

Injuries to these common ligaments can be a hurdle, impacting daily activities and mobility. While recovery varies based on severity, the individual's overall health, ligaments often take several weeks to months to heal fully. Ligaments heal more slowly than other tissues because of their relatively poor blood supply so giving them the time they need to heal is key. 🔑🦵 Does that mean you should stop exercising? NO. Because you've got to get what blood you can to the injury during the weeks and months of healing.

What should you do:

⭐ Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to any discomfort or pain during exercise. If you feel sharp or increased pain, stop the activity immediately.
⭐ Gradual Return: Ease back into exercise gradually and under guidance from your osteopath or similarly qualified health professional. (No - your mate at the gym is not an expert.) Start with low-impact activities and slowly increase intensity over time.
⭐ Avoid Overloading: Steer clear of activities that place excessive stress on the healing ligament. High-impact or contact sports might be best avoided during the initial healing phase.
⭐ Supportive Measures: Consider using braces, supports or tape to provide additional stability and protection during exercise.
⭐ Focus on Range of Motion: Incorporate gentle stretches and exercises aimed at improving flexibility and range of motion in the affected joint, helping to prevent stiffness.
⭐ Balanced Strength Training: Engage in strength exercises that target the muscles surrounding the injured area. This helps provide support to the healing ligament. Be aware that the muscle will grow and heal much more quickly than the ligament so be patient!!!
⭐ Stay Consistent with Rehabilitation: Adhere to any prescribed rehabilitation exercises diligently. These exercises are designed to aid in the healing process and prevent re-injury.
⭐ Work with us. We're your allies on your healing journey.

If you've injured one of the many ligaments in your body call us on 94379555 to make an appointment and get started on your healing journey.

Top Reasons to Visit an Osteopath!

Why do people visit our clinic? Let’s find out 👇🏼

👉🏻 Back Pain: Seeking relief from that persistent ache? Or perhaps a back injury/condition?
👉🏻 Sports Injuries: Recovering from an athletic setback? Or a rolled ankle while playing with the kids?
👉🏻 Headaches: Battling those relentless head pains? It could be due to too much time in front of the computer, poor posture neck issues or something else entirely!
👉🏻 Joint Discomfort: Looking to ease joint issues? Suffering from arthritis?

Many turn to osteopaths for these common reasons, aiming for pain relief and improved mobility through targeted therapies and manual techniques. When addressing back pain, osteopaths might employ spinal manipulation, soft tissue techniques, and tailored exercises to realign the spine, reduce muscle tension, and enhance mobility. Headaches may require work through the shoulders and neck or even further down the body.

But here's the intriguing twist! Osteopaths can and often do address more than these concerns. Your body is made up of intricately connected systems. For example, treating the back may alleviate digestive discomfort. Come and see us about those mystery aches and seemingly incurable pains and let’s see what we can do to help!

Ready to experience the holistic healing through osteopathy? Call us for an appointment on 94379555 today and uncover unexpected relief! 💪

🥕🍎 Dive into the Science of Nutritious Eating! 🌱🍇

Ever wondered why fruits and veggies are hailed as nutritional superheroes? Let's take a peek into their science-backed powers!

🍊 Vitamin C Boost: Fruits like oranges and strawberries, and veggies like bell peppers, are packed with vitamin C—an antioxidant that supports your immune system, aids in collagen production for healthy skin, bones, tendons and ligaments, and even helps absorb iron!

🥬 Green Goodness: Leafy greens like spinach and kale are rich in vitamins A, C, and K, plus minerals like iron and calcium. They're a powerhouse for vision, maintaining a robust immune system and maintaining the health of your bones since Vitamin K supports bone density and may help reduce the risk of fractures.

🍇 Berry Brilliance: Berries—blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries—are loaded with antioxidants. These tiny wonders protect your cells from damage, support brain health, and may even lower the risk of chronic diseases.

🥦 Fibre Fantastic: Broccoli, apples, and pears are bursting with fibre. This superhero nutrient aids digestion, keeps you feeling full (so you don't reach for junk food to fill up 🍟) and supports a healthy gut, which is essential for overall well-being!

🥑 Avocado's Good Fats: Avocados contain heart-healthy fats, fibre, folate Vitamin E and potassium - good for the muscles and for the brain, potentially assisting in reducing inflammation.

🍅 Colourful Carotenoids: Tomatoes, carrots, and sweet potatoes boast carotenoids, promoting eye health, healthy skin, and providing a boost to your immune system!

🍌 Potassium-Packed Bananas: Muscles love potassium! Known for their potassium content, bananas help maintain healthy muscle function and assist in preventing muscle cramps during exercise.

Including a variety of these fruits and veggies in your diet enhances overall health and specifically contributes to strong muscles and bones. Enjoy them in salads, smoothies, or as wholesome snacks to reap their fantastic benefits! 🍇🥕🥑

Tired of Living in Pain? It's time to call us. 🌟

Living with chronic pain? You've probably tried everything to deal with it - healthy and unhealthy! But it's like a game with ever shifting goalposts.

There are a few basic things to think about first...

🏃🏾‍♀️ Move. Even when you don't feel like it - move. Movement gets fluid into your joints and brings blood flow to your muscles. It's healing.

🍷Cut down on the booze. It might feel like it's helping with your pain. IT'S NOT. Alcohol steals hydration and nutrients from your muscles.

🥗🛌🏿 Eat well, rest well, stretch, blah, blah, blah. But you've done all that and you're still in pain. It's a puzzle 🧩 and not a fun one. Luckily the osteopaths at Inner Balance are good at puzzles.

From old injuries to repetitive strain, the triggers are varied. Sometimes pain doesn't even originate where you feel it...

🧠 Deciphering Referred Pain: Gall bladder or period pain might seem worlds away from your shoulders, but here's the twist: nerve pathways connect the pelvic region and lower spine to your shoulders, allowing pain signals to travel, get confused and create this referred pain. Since the pain doesn't really come from where you feel it - there's not a lot you can do at that point. You've got to treat the source. (Luckily a few manual adjustments often does the trick.) And that's not the only pain mystery you might feel - back issues may trigger headaches and on it goes....

📞 Ready for a Pain Puzzle Solution? Call 9437 9555 to book an appointment. We are here to offer anatomical insights to get to the bottom of your pain, alleviate it, restore mobility to your joints and help you help yourself to healthier life full of movement. 🌈

Our word of the day is Mandible.

Did you know this mighty jawbone is the only moveable bone in the skull?

At Inner Balance, we're here to share the secrets of your
mandible and offer osteopathic care if anything goes wrong!

Anatomy Insights: The mandible, from the Latin mandibula
meaning jawbone; holds the lower teeth and supports vital
facial structures. Its unique mobility allows for crucial functions
like talking, yawning, and chewing.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the mandible to the
skull. The TMJ is one of the most complex joints in the body,
capable of hinge-like movements for jaw opening and closing, as
well as sliding and rotating motions for chewing and speaking.
Theres a small, fibrous disc in there that acts as a cushion
between the bones, providing smooth movement and absorbing
shock during jaw actions. And it's connected - multiple muscles,
including the masseter, temporalis, and medial pterygoid, attach
to the TMJ. So - it's pretty amazing, but with so much
complexity theres so much more chance of something going
wrong...

When misaligned due to injury, stress, or jaw clenching, it can trigger Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD), causing jaw
pain, clicking, or difficulty opening the mouth.

Meanwhile, simple tension in the jaw muscles, due to stress or
poor alignment, can radiate pain to the head and neck, leading to
tension-type headaches. These headaches, scientifically known
as cervicogenic headaches can be linked to jaw muscle contractions.

What can we do? We're here to help address jaw misalignments, TMJ issues, and even those pesky headaches linked to jaw tension through manual adjustments, realignments elsewhere in the body and therapeutic exercises. It might seem like an inevitable pain - but its not.

Ready to Say yes to Relief? Call us on 94379555 to schedule your appointment. Lets give your mandible the attention it deserves for a happier, healthier life/smile/meal/conversation....

Easy for George to say - he was busy creating plays, manifestos and an impressive beard 🧔🏻‍♂️. But he’s got a point. We’re not waiting to stumble across some finished version of ourselves hiding under a rock 🪨. We’re building, shaping, adjusting (sometimes literally) muscle by muscle, joint by joint, vertebra by vertebra 🦴.

At its heart, osteopathy is about helping you create a life that moves well, feels strong, and supports what you want to do 💪. Not just finding comfort, but building it.

So let’s keep creating. One good movement at a time.
