Where are your precious photographs?
Not the ones on your phone — I mean the old ones. The fragile ones. The ones that hold entire lifetimes inside a single fading frame.
Are they in a shoebox under the bed, like my grandfather’s once were? Or tucked inside a plastic bag in the back of a cupboard, like some of my parents’ photos? Waiting. Fading.
My dad’s photos from the 1940s were stored in an old paper album, the corners loosening, the pages surrendering to time. Some had already slipped free.
Six years ago, I decided that wasn’t good enough.
I placed them into archival-quality albums — acid-free, lignin-free — designed to protect what cannot be replaced.
Because preserving your family’s history isn’t just about storage.
It’s about safeguarding your legacy.
I've decided to sell these beautiful archival quality photo albums from Creative Memories. Sure, the company loves photo scrapbooking, but I'm all about preserving the memories and saving the photos! I have over 40 albums that I've created over the last 20 years. What do you want to pass down to your children and grandchildren?
These albums come in 12x12 or 8x8, with black or white pages and protective sleeves — not just beautiful but built to last.
Don’t let your memories fade quietly.

Last year I got dad to do a Y-DNA with Family Tree DNA. The test can go back 37 generations. https://www.familytreedna.com/
It showed up that his Haplogroup was R-M343. This map shows the mutation of DNA across Europe.
At 12 generations, he matched with someone from the USA and their ancestor was John Bloxom from Virginia, USA in 1650. The original name Bloxom/Bloxham comes from Oxfordshire, England. Then I looked up Bloxham matches on Ancestry and there are quite a few 6th and 7th cousins. So how did our Mushet line from Scotland come from Bloxhams in England? That interruption of DNA lines has been going on for centuries. I've been tracing my Mushet line for 40 years and now I have to trace Bloxhams!! I've just upgraded dad's test to the Big Y-DNA and that goes back 111 generations. Even though dad passed away this year, they still have a sample (as I sent in 2 swabs) and can hopefully use it.

Many years ago, I gave some info about my grandfather to a Scientist at Melbourne Uni. He scanned all of my grandfather's diaries onto a CD. Thomas James Malcomson was born in Collingwood in 1909. He was an optical engineer and helped make gun sights for rifles during ww2. He was secretary to the Optical Munitions Panel and used to fly to Sydney, Perth and Tasmania.

Watching the ABC TV with a live broadcast of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the conflict in Malaysia. Very moving speeches. I hate wars but I feel for the families that lost loved ones and still grieve 75 years later. Now they are laying wreaths with bagpipes playing. Very moving.

I just had a zoom with a group of genealogical society members from all over Australia and New Zealand.
The presenter Andrew Redfern was fantastic in sharing ideas to preserve our 'stuff' we have from our family such as photos and papers.

The affordable pricing and simple process of direct-to-consumer DNA kits means curiosity around family and cultural heritage is tempting to satisfy. But are there costs to consumers that aren't financial?
