This is a commonly prescribed medical treatment for muscle, tendon, joint pain and loss of function.

We see many clients who have been offered a steroid injection as a quick fix or have had several that have not given short- or long-term improvements.

As with all procedures there are positives and negatives which should be considered.
We as exercise physiologists educate people on the risks and rewards of such treatments.

Pregnancy doesn't have to mean the end of resistance training or lifting.

The latest systematic review shows that strength training whilst pregnant can reduce the odds of the following conditions:

• Gestational hypertension by 58%
• Gestational diabetes by 38%
• perinatal mood disorders by 52%
• macrosomia by 33%

It is therefore important that you keep doing the same exercises that you were doing before you were pregnant. These can be modified throughout your pregnancy.

An exercise physiologist can help you put together an exercise plan throughout your pregnancy.

150,000 Australians currently suffer from Parkinson’s disease with 50 people diagnosed every day.
Early onset Parkinson's can be diagnosed anywhere from 20 -50 years old.

Exercise can help with both the visible symptoms - rigidity, tremors, slowness of movement and gait disturbance. As well as having an impact on mental health as half of all Parkinson's sufferers are affected by depression and anxiety.

The reason that exercise is so impactful is that a sedentary lifestyle can worsen motor and mood symptoms and affect medication update as well as cognitive capacity.

As we are finding people are getting more confident and stronger we need to increase the variety and the amount of free weights that we have available. Which shows that it doesn't matter your age or experience you can always get fitter and stronger!

Our Barbell Club on a Thursday works on lifting weights (especially barbells) to build muscle, strength and increase bone density. The consistency of this specialized group has increased all the members confidence in more ways than one.

To celebrate being our first members we used them as inspiration for our new Healthfit jumper and t-shirt designs.

An Exercise Physiologist is a university degree educated Allied Health professional who specializes in using evidence-based exercise and behaviour change protocols to treat conditions.

In plain English that means we use exercise that has been proven to work to treat chronic and acute conditions and are trusted by doctors, specialists and government organizations to provide your care.

We see a number of clients with low bone density, muscle mass and weight management requirements as well as women with menopausal changes who require an adequate amount of protein to enable them to build bone, muscle and slow down the rate of loss as they age. Alongside strength training which is key to combatting these changes, whey protein supplements can be part of your daily nutritional intake to provide you with your required protein intake.

0.8g of protein per kilo are recommended by food guidelines. When we are trying to build muscle mass/ strength and bone density through performing strength training, this can increase to 1.5g -2g of protein per kilo.

On your initial consultation we will always ask about your overall lifestyle which includes your nutrition and this can involve referring you to a dietitian or to start with completing a food diary to ascertain if you are having sufficient macro nutrients (proteins, fats and carbs) to combat weight management as well as muscle and bone loss.

We are now a registered partner for Parkinson's NSW on the South Coast.

Parkinson's is highly prevalent in Australia due to the ageing population. Exercise can help manage and in some cases slow the symptoms of this disease.

We currently treat sufferers through Aged Care, the NDIS, GP and specialist referrals as well as through Private Health. If we can help you or a love one please do not hesitate to get in touch.
