❄️ Pinch and a Punch for the First Day of the Month! 👊
The old saying goes, “Pinch and a punch for the first day of the month” — which makes June a timely reminder to think about your health.
While winter may mean less time in the sun, it’s actually a great season to book a skin check. Skin cancers can develop year-round, and early detection remains one of the most important factors in successful treatment.
🔍 Why have a skin check in winter?
• Less tanned skin can make changes easier to identify
• It’s a good time to monitor spots noticed over summer
• Early assessment can provide reassurance or allow timely treatment if needed

What is a punch biopsy?
Despite the name, a punch biopsy isn’t a “punch” at all!
A punch biopsy is a minor procedure where a doctor uses a small, circular instrument to remove a tiny sample of skin. The sample is then sent to a pathology laboratory for examination under a microscope.
A punch biopsy may be recommended when:
✔️ A skin lesion requires further investigation
✔️ A rash or skin condition needs a definitive diagnosis
✔️ A doctor wants to determine the nature of a skin change before planning treatment
Not every skin lesion requires a biopsy, and your GP will discuss the most appropriate assessment and management options for your individual situation.

Flu clinics are continuing and running each day!

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone and we are especially encouraging some of our younger men to come in and get vaccinated too. A lot of people in this age group tend to put it off or think they really don’t need it.

Even if you are generally healthy, flu can still knock you around and spread easily to family and workmates.

If you haven’t had yours yet, give us a call to book. We have times available to suit those working who may need a later time slot.

Over the weekend, Dr Meike Flore attended the Annual Women’s & Children’s Health Update in Sydney.

Continuing professional development is an important part of maintaining high standards of care in our Practice. Events like this provide opportunities to review current evidence, guidelines, and approaches across women’s and children’s health.

We look forward to applying relevant insights from this update to support our patients in everyday practice and also in our Menopause May clinics.
