Painful in*******se is common — but it is NOT normal.
You deserve comfort, ease, and pleasure in your body. If in*******se or outercourse feels painful, that pain is real and it matters. 💛

Pain can show up in many different ways, and every person’s experience is unique:
• A superficial sting or burning
• A deep pressure or ache
• A sharp, sudden pain
• A mix of sensations that feel different each time
None of these are “just part of being a woman.”

Some reasons Why can this happen?
There are many reasons why being intimate may hurt, including:
• Hormonal changes — which can affect vaginal tissue, lubrication, and mucosa
• Pelvic floor muscle tension or overactivity — the muscles become tight and guarded
• Past painful experiences — causing the pelvic floor to contract as a protective mechanism
• Anxiety or fear — anticipating pain makes the muscles tighten even more and heightens the nervous system which can continue the cycle

This can create a loop:
Painful experience → muscle tension → more pain → fear → unregulated our nervous system and the muscles become on alert which can cause more muscle tension.
But the good news?
✨ The cycle can be broken.
With support, education, pelvic floor therapy, and individualised care, it can improve.
💛 If you experience pain, you are not alone — and you deserve to experience pleasure

We are here to help! 🤍

Let’s talk pelvic pain during s*x — because in our space as pelvic health physios, we see so many women living with it, and we shouldn’t be normalising it.
Yes, it’s common… but that doesn’t make it “just the way it is.”

Pelvic pain during intimacy can happen for lots of different reasons, and you don’t have to figure it out alone. Working with a pelvic floor physio can help you down-regulate your nervous system, retrain (or down-train) pelvic floor muscles, and prioritise s*xual well-being with moisturisers, lubricant, and personalised support.

You deserve pleasure — not pain. 💛
If this sounds familiar, please know help is here.

🤍🤍 Your pelvic floor muscles are an incredible group of muscles sitting at the base of your pelvis.
They play a key role in bladder and bowel function, pelvic organ support, s*xual health and wellbeing, and work together with your abdominal muscles to support core stability. Small daily habits can make a meaningful difference.⭐️

Here are a few simple ways to care for your pelvic floor:

✨ Manage pelvic floor tension or pain
✨ Build strength and coordination to support movement and daily tasks (including learning how to engage these muscles correctly!)
✨ Maintain healthy bladder habits
✨ Reduce constipation
✨ Add pelvic floor stretches to support mobility and relaxation
✨ Tailor your pelvic floor training to your individual health goals

If you’re noticing changes or feel you’d benefit from personalised guidance, our pelvic health physiotherapists are here to support you. 🤍

At our clinic, we’re proud to provide a safe, supportive and empowering environment where you can feel heard, understood and guided with evidence-based care. 🤍🌸

Just because something is common, doesn’t mean it's something you need to just accept.

If you’ve ever thought:
✨“I leak when I sneeze.”
✨ “Pain is just normal for me.”
✨ “Heaviness is just part of being a mum.”
✨ “Leaking during s*x is just something I live with.”
✨“I thought this was just part of ageing.”

You are not alone, and you don’t have to live with it.

At the Pelvic Health Physio, we can help retrain, restore, and rebuild your confidence so you can feel strong, supported, and connected with your body at every stage of life.

Engaging your pelvic floor isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing it right. True pelvic floor health is about connection, breath, and consistency, not force.

Here are 5 ways to engage your pelvic floor effectively:
✨ Use different cues
✨ Pair engagement with your breath
✨ Choose gentle over forceful. Aim for control rather than maximum contraction
✨ Practice in everyday moments
✨ Build consistency, not perfection

Your pelvic floor deserves care that supports your whole body; breath, posture, and movement all play a part. If you’re unsure whether you’re activating correctly, at The Pelvic Health Physio, we can guide you with personalised strategies that fit your body and stage of life. Book a consult today 💕

05/11/2025

Pregnancy places extra demand on your pelvic floor. Hormonal changes, increased pressure from your growing baby, and everyday challenges like constipation or vomiting can all add strain; sometimes leading to pelvic floor heaviness or prolapse symptoms.

But you’re not powerless. 💪
With the right support, you can strengthen and protect your pelvic floor to reduce pressure and prepare for a smoother recovery after birth.

Simple, consistent habits make a big difference; like managing constipation, learning how to breathe and lift safely, and practising tailored pelvic floor exercises that suit your stage of pregnancy.

Every woman’s body is unique. With guidance from a Women’s Health Physiotherapist, you don’t have to navigate these changes alone.

✨ Prevention is power and that power is yours.
