DR SIMON WALL
Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr Simon Wall is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon who has been providing orthopaedic services to patients in the Great Southern for over 15 years, with expertise in joint replacement (hips and knees), sports injuries (ACL, cartilage and ligament injuries) and general orthopaedic trauma.

Simon accepts referrals to see public, DVA and private patients at Great Southern Specialist Centre. Patients may request to join the public waitlist, or he offers prompt privately insured surgery in Perth at St John of God Murdoch and Mount Lawley Hospitals.
Simon was born and raised in the UK, and studied Medicine at Imperial College, London. He gained his UK surgical specialist qualification (FRCS) in 2010, followed by his Australian specialist exam (FRACS). He has completed sub-specialty further Orthopaedic Fellowship training in Baltimore USA, Exeter UK, and Perth WA. Simon has been a committed competitive and social sportsman all his life, and has a diploma in Sports Medicine.

New Services available by Dr Al-Najjar Vascular Surgeon

Dr Al-Najjar visits Great Southern Specialist Centre on a monthly basis. He will now be offering/performing Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) and VenaSeal (glue) treatment, along with multiple stab avulsions for the management of varicose veins.
Both microsclerotherapy (liquid and foam) available and performed at GSSC in Albany.

RFA and VenaSeal are minimally invasive (“keyhole”) procedures that avoid the need for traditional vein stripping. They offer superior outcomes for patients, with a 10% recurrence rate at 5 years compared to 20% with vein stripping.

In addition to the above, he is pleased to announce the launch of specialist varicose vein services at Albany Day Hospital, with the first treatment session scheduled for Monday, 11 August 2025.

The following modern, minimally invasive procedures will be available:
🔹 Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
🔹 VenaSeal™ Glue Treatment
🔹 Stab Avulsions (for branch varicosities)
🔹 Microsclerotherapy – both foam and liquid, performed in rooms at GSSC

These treatments are walk-in, walk-out procedures that avoid the need for traditional vein stripping. They are proven to offer better patient outcomes, with:
✅ Lower recurrence rates – 10% at 5 years with RFA/glue vs. 20% with stripping
✅ Less downtime and improved patient comfort
✅ Cosmetically favourable results

Referrals are now welcome.

Dr Peter Honey, Orthopaedic Surgeon - now consulting monthly from Great Southern Specialist Centre

Dr Peter Honey grew up on a farm just west of Cranbrook and began his education at the local primary school before attending Albany Senior High School for a year. He then completed his secondary education in Perth and went on to study medicine at the University of Western Australia. He completed his orthopaedic training in Perth in 1989.

Peter pursued further subspecialty training in the United States, focusing on Hand and Microsurgery at the University of South Florida in Tampa, and Shoulder and Sports Injury Surgery at Harvard Medical School in Boston. During his time at Massachusetts General Hospital, he worked alongside the medical teams for Harvard’s athletic programs, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Bruins.

Upon returning to Perth, Peter established his orthopaedic practice, sharing rooms with colleagues Mr Michael Holt and Mr Peter Woodland. He currently holds appointments as a Visiting Orthopaedic Surgeon at Perth Children’s Hospital and Fremantle Hospital.

Dr Peter Honey undertakes the full spectrum of upper limb and knee orthopaedic procedures, not limited to, though including:
Carpal tunnel release, tendinitis surgery, Dupuytren’s surgery
Joint replacement surgery of the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder and knee. Arthroscopic wrist, elbow, shoulder and knee surgery

As the year comes to a close, the team at GSSC would like to thank you for your ongoing support.
