While only 1 in 20 of our patients birth on a weekend under the care of our colleagues, we’ve heard that you’d like the opportunity to meet the rest of our team. Our first Meet & Greet is on next Wednesday, for current patients booked for birth under the care of the Anaria Obstetricians.

Recurrence rates of HG vary depending on the types of research you look at (eg database studies vs surveys), and are typically high.

Early treatment is most effective and we’ve got some wonderful new services in NSW to help care for people with HG.

It is recommended to wait to conceive until at least 12 months after you've given birth to allow your body time to recover nutritionally, restore iron levels and allow your uterus to heal. This would mean there is around 18-24 months from one birth to another birth.

However, we don't have a crystal ball to tell us how long it is going to take to fall pregnant - which can make it a little tricky with planning.

No, not all pregnancy vitamins are the same. The most heavily marketed vitamins may not be the right one for you. In fact beyond folic acid supplements, you might not need anything if your diet is providing everything you need.

A multidisciplinary approach, involving a dietician or naturopath can determine what vitamins you may be deficient in and which vitamins may be best for you.

Iron infusions are safe from the second trimester of pregnancy and are a good option for those who oral supplementation isn't working well for.

Iron infusions do carry their own risks, so it is important to discuss the pros and cons with your healthcare provider

With a C-Section or Perineal Wound from birth, it’s important to reduce the risk of infection by:
- Keep it clean and dry
- Changing pads regularly
- Washing hands regularly
- Use a peri bottle to spray water on the perineal wound while passing urine
- Pat stitches dry, don’t wipe

If you are concerned about your stitches always contact the healthcare provider or hospital.

If your C-section scar is still red, raised or itchy more than 12 months after birth it may be a keloid scar. This can occur when excess collagen forms during healing.

Management can include:
- Silicone scar gel or strips
- Seeing a dermatologist
- Scar massage or acupuncture
- Laser therapy

it is important to always get your scar checked by a health professional if you have any concerns prior to seeking treatment.

I often get asked what the success rate of a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean) is, with most families shocked at how high the success actually is. However, your personal risk factors, reason for previous caesarean and type of previous caesarean all impact your individualised success rate.

The best thing to do is have a supportive healthcare team who will normalise VBACs and give you all of the facts instead of creating fear around them.

It's important to note, that not everyone will want a VBAC and that is perfectly okay! In your first appointment we will chat about all of your options so that you can decide the option that is best for you and your family.

Usually — yes!

Your body (cervix and uterus) have done the work before, so subsequent labours tend to be shorter. BUT — birth is unpredictable, and each baby and birth is unique. So although generally subsequent labours are faster, it s not a guarantee!

Hi, I’m Andrew

I've been working in women's health for over 20 years, and became a specialist in 2005. I've undertaken broad training in general obstetrics and gynaecology, with additional training in advanced minimally invasive surgery (sometimes called "Keyhole Surgery") and infertility, attaining the additional qualification of Masters of Reproductive Medicine (UNSW).

One of the most satisfying aspects of my practice is being able to care for you throughout your reproductive journey from conception to baby.

In my practice, I like to have a relaxed consulting and communication style. You won't see me wearing a tie, and I prefer to be called Andrew, not Dr Zuschmann. I want you to feel comfortable, and I encourage you to ask me any questions you may have about your condition.
