“Whoever practices Tai Chi regularly will in time gain the suppleness of a child, the strength of a lion, and the peace of mind of a sage.”

— And old Chinese Proverb

Sounds lofty? Yes indeed! But there is something to be said about regular drops of effort and perseverance... In time it accumulates to something much greater than we could have imagined!

Our Tai chi community classes are now underway on Wednesday evenings! I am also currently registering interest to open a Saturday afternoon class too! If you’re interested to join in or learn more more about Tai Chi, hop onto my website (link in bio) to find out more! 😊

// BETTER BALANCE & BETTER BONES //

Many physiological processes are happening simultaneously when it comes to maintaining balance – including sensory perception, muscular support, strength and flexibility, neuromuscular coordination and cognitive awareness. Practising Tai Chi intentionally integrates all these processes and this is why it can be so helpful in improving balance and preventing falls.

A randomised-control study published in the New England Journal of Medicine has found that Tai Chi can improve balance and motor control in patients with mild to moderate Parkinson’s Disease. The trial consisted of 195 patients that were randomly assigned to one of three training groups: Tai Chi, resistence-training exercises, or stretching. The groups attended twice weekly training sessions over a 6-month period. The Tai Chi group performed 4 times better than those in the stretching group and around twice better than the resistance training group [1].

In post-menopausal women, it is known that the bone strength decreases very sharply due to rapid hormone changes within her body.

In 2017, a systematic review study was conducted to determine whether the practice of Tai Chi had an effect on attenuating bone mineral density (BMD) loss. A total of 1604 people were included in the review, a combined total from 20 different randomised control trials. The aggregated results from this systematic review suggests that Tai Chi is effective in attenuating BMD loss in the lumbar spine and hips of the elderly, peri and postmenopausal women, osteoarthritis patients, as well as cancer survivors [2].

// BEGINNER TAI CHI CLASSES 2021 - PART 2 //

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🙌

2020 was a bit of an 'ew' year... May this New Year of 2021 bring new hope and restoration for all of us! ☺️

As mentioned in my previous post, STARTING 3RD FEBRUARY, I will be teaching weekly Beginners Tai Chi Classes at the Miranda Community Centre!

In this Beginners Tai Chi Course, I will personally take you through the standard Yang Style 40 Form over 40 weeks. The entire form takes about 15-20min to practise and contains 40 movements from start to finish.

Each week we will aim to learn 1-2 new movements along with regular review of earlier ones. Don't worry if you have any health concerns or physical restrictions — the movements can be adjusted to your current capacity. Tai Chi is never about forcing your body to do what it cannot, but about gradually opening up the possibility for greater ease and flexibility!

A brief background about me — I started learning with dad when I was about 7 years old. At that age, it seemed every kid had to learn some basic stances and other techniques...😅

It wasn’t until much later in my late teens that I developed a personal interest for Tai Chi, under the inspiring influence of my father!

// Enrolments are still open! //

Please visit my website (link in bio) and you will find more information on what this Tai Chi course will cover, and how to enrol! 🙌

// BEGINNER TAI CHI CLASSES 2021 - PART 1 //

Starting 3RD FEBRUARY 2021, I will be starting some Beginner Tai Chi Classes for health in the Sutherland Shire! I will personally be taking you through the Yang Style 40 Form over 40 weeks. The classes will run weekly in 10 week blocks (excluding public holidays). If you haven’t heard much about Tai Chi before, here’s a little intro:

WHAT IS TAI CHI & WHY PRACTISE IT?

Tai Chi or more formally, Tai Chi Chuan (太極拳) can be described as a form of mind-body exercise that is rooted in traditional Chinese philosophy, Chinese Medicine and martial arts. Therefore, it can be applied for improving health, as well as for self-defence. In our classes, we will focus on the practice of Tai Chi for improving and optimising our physical and mental health. While there are many styles and forms of Tai Chi, it generally involves the integration of gentle and intentional movements with our breathing and cognition. Through focused relaxation, we can gradually improve our balance and coordination, mental calmness and concentration, and increased self-awareness. In our everyday lives, it can help us to grow in our physical and mental-emotional capacity to respond to the many stresses life brings, instead of simply reacting to them. 😊

More details will be up on my webpage, but for those who are interested, here are some initial details for the classes!

VENUE:
Miranda Community Centre

TIME:
Wednesday 7:30 - 8:30pm

COST:

In Chinese Medicine, localised pain, numbness and tingling is often be a sign of poor or suboptimal circulation or qi flow.

These symptoms can have many different underlying causal factors, of which chronic stress and tension is a common one.

A Chinese Medicine diagnosis is by what’s called “Pattern Differentiation.” This is always individualised and is like taking a “snapshot” of one’s current state of health and formulating a care plan to address these patterns of imbalance. Our bodies are dynamic and as we begin to feel better, these patterns will inevitably also change. 😊

Have a question about what we do? Feel free to contact us or DM me with your concerns.👩🏻‍⚕️

Auricular Acupuncture or Auriculotherapy is a relatively newer form of treatment compared to the traditional Chinese meridian system. It combines principles of modern neurology and specific points found on the ear to treat a variety of musculoskeletal and mental health conditions.
Here is a lovely patient of mine being treated primarily for pain associated with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Over a period time, this was done through a combination of auricular acupuncture, herbal supplementation, body acupuncture, and also a helpful self pain management system via the Curable App my patient has discovered. 😊
She has come a remarkably long way since we first began through her openness and collaboration, and a fierce determination to get better! 🌟
Have a question about a condition and not sure whether acupuncture may help? Feel free to email me or call to enquire! We are always here to help! 🙋🏻‍♀️😊

// An exciting announcement for 2021! //
As part of Origin Acupuncture Clinic services, I’ll be starting to run some Beginner Taichi lessons in 2021! 🙌
☯️ Want to improve your immunity, physical and mental/emotional health gently and gracefully?
☯️ Want to build resilience against stress and increase your focus and concentration?
☯️ There are tonnes of health research to show the benefits of Taichi exercise therapy in improving cardiovascular health, mental health, strengthening the joints and bones, and improving sleep. 😊
☯️ It can be considered an arm of Chinese Medicine because it shares the same underlying principles of Yin-Yang, and the Meridian system.
I’ll definitely be posting more information soon, so watch this space! 🙌
In the meantime, drop me any thoughts below, on your experiences with or impressions about Taichi! 😊
