Correction of Gynaecomastia, also called ‘male breast reduction’ or colloquially ‘gyno surgery’, is a plastic surgery procedure that removes excess breast tissue with or without some excess chest fat. In severe cases where there is excess skin, it may also be necessary to do an extended operation to remove the excess skin, although this is not as common.

The male breast reduction surgery is usually done with a combination of liposuction, and surgically cutting out the excess breast tissue. Dr Safvat makes sure the scars are well placed to be hidden at the lower half of the ar**la border. Incision sites heal well with minimal scaring.

It is important to remember that everyone's anatomy and concerns are different and the procedure may vary depending on each individual patients' needs. A consultation with Dr Safvat in our Miranda, Bowral or Concord rooms will help determine if Gynaecomastia surgery is appropriate for you, as well as to understand the benefits, outcome, potential complications and recovery process for the surgery.

Or contact our rooms on (02) 8544 3270 for more information.
Patients should discuss with their GP and Plastic Surgeon as to whether surgery is a good option for them. All surgery comes with risks which will be discussed during consultation. Your final results can take up to 12 months or more to be seen. Before proceeding, it is recommended that you seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Understanding the 3 Main Types of Skin Cancer:

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia — but early detection makes a huge difference. Here are the three main types to know:

🔹 Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC): The most common and least aggressive type. Often appears as a pearly bump or scaly patch and grows slowly.

🔹 Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC): Can look red, scaly, or crusted and may become sore or tender. SCCs can spread if left untreated, so prompt treatment is important.

🔹 Melanoma: The most serious form. Melanoma can develop in an existing mole or appear as a new, irregular, or changing spot. It requires urgent attention.

Regular skin checks and sun protection are key to early detection and prevention. If you notice any new or changing spots, get them checked by your GP or a specialist.

Ancient texts describe reconstructive techniques used in India as early as 600 BC. The word “plastic” comes from the Greek word plastikos, which means “to shape or mould.” Modern plastic surgery combines this history with advanced techniques and technology to restore both function and appearance.

Blepharoplasty incisions can take up to 6-12 months to heal completely but will be more noticeable for the first six weeks. There is also bruising that will be present during the first few weeks.

Hospital Stay: Day stay only

Anaesthetic: Light General Anaesthetic

Recovery: 1-2 weeks depending on the type of work you do.

In the early stages, scars can look red, raised, or firm, but over time they soften, fade, and flatten. How a scar heals depends on genetics, skin type, and how well it’s cared for. Following Dr Safvat's Scar Management Protocol which includes protecting scars from the sun and using silicone products can make a big difference in the final outcome.
Patients should discuss with their GP and Plastic Surgeon as to whether surgery is a good option for them. All surgery comes with risks which will be discussed during consultation.
