Sometimes it can take a couple of treatments to get the horses nervous system and body back to optimum condition. Being tight in muscle groups here and there, some pinched nerves and sore from a nasty bite in a back leg all add up to a bitof discomfort. That’s why it can take a couple of remedial and chiropractic sessions. Young Eden was very happy to walk her thoroughbred chestnut mare feeling a lot happier.

When an owner calls and says’my horse just doesn’t feel quite right - I find tension all over. Most horses I see with a sore back will be sore where the back of the saddle is and behind. But there will stuff all over - tendons at the base of skull and upper neck, wither down to lower leg, and the back end with blocked sacral nerves on the surface and deep in the hindquarters. From there down the leg to the gaskin and to lower leg. When they have a bit of tightness there will always be more than you think. That’s just how it is and it’s completely normal. The total body weight of the horse is supported by the legs and they have small compact muscles that get very tight. I could go on and on :)

We have been studying the anatomy of The Horse for a long time. Someone gave me a book with this illustration, when I first started out 23 years ago.

Both fronts were a mess - off side a shocker as well - wasn’t as long as the other- just a mess. Anyhow horse was was so relieved after everything- I got a lot of ‘thanks‘ looks :)

Now this is a long toe- the owner had been quite ill for some months and the horses hooves did not get a trim- this is what can happen. Made a huge difference with a good cut back - the veins in the forearm came up straight away now that the frog of the hoof could pump some blood up the leg. After a trim and connective tissue release all over = much better walk. The horse was completely lame when I got there this morning:)

I noticed my big horse had fallen away in condition over the hind-quarter in the back end. It had been a while - and I could not get him to fill out there. Everything seemed ok, but as my horse dentist Alison pointed out - the pain caused by the sharp edged molar in his mouth, was the cause of some stress to the jaw joint and his brain. The combination of this can affect the muscular system - and the power supply (gluteals and hamstrings).

Had a great morning with Equine Dentist Allison Ostenfeld from Grafton. So thorough and explained everything in very easy to understand manner. I didn’t realize my big horse had a tooth with a super hard edge causing him pain. Allison trained overseas and has worked all through Europe and other countries. We are so fortunate to have her here on Mid North Coast NSW. Thank you to Shane Everson as well 🙂

Our Story

For all horses from athletes to the horse at home, Equine Muscle Release with professional equine superficial and deep muscle massage techniques. Tendon and Ligament Therapy, Connective Tissue Techniques or Myofascial Release (which is the foundation for best results every-time) and friendly, supportive on-going advice available. Problems can start from an early age. Issues can develop from handling errors or simply from the horse taking fright (when it is nobody’s fault, these things can happen unexpectedly). Accidents can occur from a variety of causes and reasons. Despite their size, strength and power, our equine friends are really quite fractious beings. All the body weight is supported by their legs. The front one, being the forearm and below the hand, the back - the equivalent of the thigh, calf muscles - (gaskin), and the hock the ankle. Any lower leg injury is serious, and will take a good deal of time to repair and rejuvenate as a result. Soft Tissue structures - connective tissues, muscle tissue, scar tissue, tendon and ligament can repair. Hard Tissue or Bone injuries can range from a hair-line fracture to a complete break. Bones need blood flow to get into them, to make new cells. Soft Tissues need blood and plasma. A healthy horse has a good blood supply to the heart and brain, with the optimum amount of oxygen included for optimum homeostasis. When we are dealing with nature, there are times when there intangibles, that is, some things you simply cannot explain. Most times everything to do with problem solving has a cause and reason as to why the situation occurred in the first place. :)
