“Do not seek the truth, only cease to cherish your opinions.” Seng-ts’an

The Truth or in other words, Reality, cannot be found by seeking it through the intellectual mind. Once the attachments to our likes and dislikes, our opinions, judgements, expectations and preconditioning are dropped, clear Seeing is possible. The Truth cannot be strived for, only acceptance of all things allow the Truth to be revealed.

In spiritual practice, meditation or the more traditional form of Reiki, clarity can come through consistent practice. Perceptions can change, and acceptance comes more freely, bringing a new way of Being.

Yuan Natural Therapy...great for self-care. Book now.

Just like booking in for a hair appointment or a manicure, many of us know the value of making time for regular self-care. We love the boost it gives us - feeling polished, confident, and refreshed on the outside.

Reflexology works in a similar way, but instead of focusing only on your appearance, it nurtures your whole wellbeing from the inside out. By supporting circulation, easing tension, and restoring balance, reflexology helps your body feel lighter, calmer, and more energised. And when you feel good on the inside, it naturally reflects in your skin, your mood, and the way you carry yourself. ✨

So why not add reflexology to your self-care routine - just like your hair or nail appointment - and give both your inner and outer beauty the attention they deserve? 🌸

Celebrating the birthdate of Mikao Usui, who brought Reiki to the world.

Mikao Usui 15th August 1865 to 9th March 1926

Mikao Usui was born on August 15, 1865, in Taniai, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Usui Sensei was born at a critical time in Japanese history: the end of the Edo period, the age of Feudalism. Japan was ruled by the Shogunate, which commanded the armies of Samurai warriors. In 1867, political dominion and rule were returned to the Emperor of Japan, and the age of Modernism began.

Usui Mikao was the son and grandson of a merchant family whose ancestry can be traced back to the Chiba Samurai clan. He was not a samurai. Details of his childhood are unknown, so many of the stories on the internet are fabrications.

In the small village of Taniai, there is only one Buddhist temple of the Jodo Shu (Pure Land) sect, where generation after generation of the Usui family’s remains are located. In the same village, there is a Shinto Shrine with a huge stone Torii (gate) where Usui Mikao and his younger brother’s names, Sanya and Kuniji, are engraved. Usui Sanya was a medical doctor in the army and opened a clinic in Tokyo after retirement. Usui Kuniji was a Police Officer in the local area where Usui Mikao was born. Kuniji retired and became a Shihan of the Gakkai and was teaching Reiki Ryoho to local people.

In 1922, Usui Mikao climbed Kurama Yama (Mount Kurama) north of Kyoto, the ancient capital city of Japan. At the time, he was almost 57 years old, an elderly man whose average lifespan was less than 50 years in Japan. Here, he undertook severe training by fasting and meditating for 21 days. He felt one Great Reiki and became enlightened, it is believed in March 1922. The exact date is not known. Usui Sensei accidentally realised that he had been given a wonderful gift, a mysterious healing ability, in his hands. Why Usui Sensei climbed the mountain and undertook severe training for 21 days is unknown.

Every action can be a meditation, and an opportunity to focus on something else than the mind-talk. Focus in meditation and meditative action, is a practice where stillness and calmness can develop. Multitasking scatters the focus and the stillness. For stillness, any one thing requires our full attention at any given time.

'Stillness is the foundation of understanding and insight'...Thich Nhat Hanh

When the mind is still and calm, our perspective shifts—we begin to see with greater clarity. Hyakuten Inamoto Sensei, the founder of Komyo ReikiDo, illustrates this with the image of the moon reflected on water. When the water is agitated, the reflection of the moon is fragmented and unclear. But when the water is still, the moon appears clearly, just as it is.

In this metaphor, the water represents the mind. When the mind is restless—caught in distraction and noise, the so-called “monkey mind”—our perception becomes distorted, much like a rippled pond distorts the moon’s reflection. This is the lens through which we often view reality.

But in stillness, the mind settles. In that quiet, we perceive the world with accuracy and insight. Understanding arises not from confusion or illusion, but from seeing things as they truly are.

Reiki invites stillness—a gentle pause in which clarity can arise and true perception can return.

Visiting the Kimono Exhibition at the NGV with friends was a lovely break from the norm. It was rather surprising that the older kimonos were exuding quite a strong energy, whereas the more contemporary kimonos did not. I can only guess that there were more artisans working on the older garments from dyeing the fabric, painted/dyed/embroidered, and sewn by hand.

I love Japan and all things Japanese. I'm still learning a lot about the culture. I am looking forward to my solo trip to Japan in October.
