Calmbirth is a childbirth education program that was developed to re-educate and re-empower women about the natural process of birth. Calmbirth strives to educate women and their partners about the amazing abilities of their bodies to give birth. Through this education comes a trust and a faith in their bodies allowing for an amazing birth experience. We believe that when we learn how to embrace birth as a natural part of life & not fear it, then the way we experience and talk about birth will positively affect future generations.

Birth is not just physical — it’s deeply physiological.

Your breath is one of the most powerful tools you have to influence how your body experiences labour.

When you breathe slowly, deeply, and rhythmically, you activate your parasympathetic nervous system — your body’s “rest, soften, and open” state.

This is where birth works best.

✨ Muscles soften instead of resist.
✨️ The pelvis opens.
✨ Oxytocin (your birth hormone) flows more easily.
✨ Pain is processed differently — often more manageable.
✨ Your body and baby work together, not against each other.

But when fear creeps in, the body can shift into the sympathetic nervous system — the “fight or flight” response.

Breathing becomes shallow.
The body tightens and closes.
Labour can feel more intense, more overwhelming.

And this is why breathwork matters.

Coming back to your breath is like giving your body a gentle reminder:
👉 You are safe
👉 You can soften
👉 Your body knows what to do

In labour, you don’t need to “do” birth perfectly.

You simply need to return — again and again — to your breath.

Because in that space…
your body opens,
your mind quietens,
and birth unfolds.

✨ Your breath is your anchor.
✨ Your breath is your power.

And it’s with you every step of the way.

To learn how to equip yourself with this powerful tool for birth, join me for a Calmbirth course.

Calmbirth story incoming...

This beautiful mumma and her partner came to my January course this year. Her cheeky little man was breech for a while, but he turned himself the right way (down) and made his beautiful entrance into the world. Read on for the details ✨

“Labour was surprisingly quick! I had mild but regular contractions for approx 24hrs but I was able to get some sleep and go about my day. Then my waters broke around 8pm, things escalated quickly. I used the tens for 2-3 hrs at home after waters broke. It got me through plenty of intense contractions because Owen was posterior until towards the end of labour. I ended up having involuntary contractions at 4cm dilation and so I went to hospital. By the time I got to hospital (30min drive) I was 8cm and then had a water birth a couple of hours later. I ended up having no pain relief other than the tens and experienced all of the post-birth feel good hormones.

I felt so good after birth that we left the hospital within 6hrs of the birth .

Overall, it was extremely intense but I feel like it went relatively smoothly for a first time birth and I’m very grateful for that the course definitely provided a lot of reassurance for Gary and myself throughout pregnancy, labour and birth thank you for running the course.

We are settling in well. It’s been a steep learning curve but thankfully I found a postpartum midwife who will provide support for the first 6wks .

Breastfeeding is going well too! Owen has already gained half a kilo in his first two weeks.”

The postpartum period can be such a joyful time filled with love and bonding —but it’s also a time of profound physical, emotional, and neurological change. After birth, your nervous system can feel overstimulated, depleted, or stuck in a constant state of alert. Whether it shows up as anxiety, irritability, trouble sleeping, or feeling overwhelmed, this is a deeply human response to a major life transition.

Calming your nervous system postpartum isn’t about “fixing” yourself—it’s about creating small, supportive conditions that help your body feel safe again.

Couples choose childbirth education for many reasons, but we believe the main reason they choose Calmbirth is because it teaches them how to become active participants in their baby’s birth rather than passive observers waiting for events to unfold.
They value learning how to empower themselves with evidence-based information so they can ask informed questions, advocate for the birth they desire, and confidently choose care providers who align with their values and respect their right to make informed decisions.

For some couples, the goal is to build confidence, trusting the natural birth process, trusting their bodies to birth their babies, and trusting that their partners know how to hold space and provide meaningful support throughout the journey.

Whatever your reason for being here, we are here to support, guide, and empower you with evidence-based knowledge in a safe, holistic, and unbiased environment.

If you are expecting a baby and you are feeling overwhelmed, why not experience the Calmbirth difference for yourselves and BOOK a Calmbirth course today. To Find a Calmbirth Educator or Maternity Hospital that offers Calmbirth go to: https://calmbirth.com.au/calmbirth-classes/
