Three 3 Things Tuesday

✨ONE ✨
I have heard that capers come from nasturtiums but never really investigated this story - flower buds, caper berries, where do they come from? The abundance of nasturtiums in my garden inspired a neighbour to share a recipe with me for “poor man’s capers” made from the pretty seed pods of the nasturtium. I’ll let you know how it goes!

✨TWO✨
After a blustery hot Saturday we checked our fire fighting equipment and made a visit to the local CFS station - Country Fire Service. And now we have a couple of respirators on hand - might get a few more and are preparing our first bush fire safety plan. Two neighbours have bunkers and there’s a getaway route, our place is away from the “flame zone” but it feels good to be prepared.

✨THREE✨
Juicy sweet imperfect mandarins from the neighbour tree. This is my life now, collecting, sharing, preserving, cooking, learning, pruning, harvesting the abundance in this valley 🤍

Tag me in post of your Three 3 Things Tuesday.

Our 22 day challenge is over but let’s keep the spirit of calmness going with a sharing of posts that make us feel good

Glimmers

Exploring the idea of glimmers has helped so many of my clients who have been feeling highjacked by the big feelings of triggers across their lives.
Glimmers can be tiny beautiful moments or glimpses when you notice something lovely and it makes you feel good inside.
✨ I’m often seeking out glimmers ✨
✨ I hope you can explore this idea too ✨

On my shelf

On my shelf 🤍

Currently reading Between A Wolf And A Dog by Georgia Blain, a beautifully written story of family love and the struggle for forgiveness. 🤍

Gift From The Sea by Anne Morrow Lindberah finds its way back to my bedside every year. Written in 1955 my mum would buy this book constantly sharing with family and friends, especially women to encourage them to take the simple wisdom of coming into your “true centre alone“ 🤍

Maggie O’Farrell’s Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox is an extraordinary story that reminds of us of the true stories where people that were different (today we would say on the spectrum) were literally banished, locked up for their life’s- this is a fascinating read that unravels the secrets one family kept. 🤍

Being A Brain Wise Therapist by Bonnie Badenock supports my thirst for learning and reading to understand more on ways I can support my clients. 🤍

Go As A River, by Shelley Read, moved me in so many ways, highly recommend this for its prose, and extraordinary saga that stretches over decades to give a sense of how the world has changed and not changed. The peach farm is a central character. 🤍

Healing looks like…

Healing looks like:
✨ More observing, less judging
✨ More responding, less reacting
✨ More boundaries, less resentment
✨ More inner peace, less outer chaos
✨ More clarity, less confusion
✨ More being, less doing
✨ More faith, less fear
✨ More curiousity, less controlling

Do you resonate with any of these ideas on what healing looks like?

My View Today

My view today is from where I now live, work and practice. Sharing a few vistas as a move through the building my eyes drift towards the bright flowers, greens and blue sky. I can hear birdsong - a wide variety and I don’t know the names of all the sweet birds that nest and hang out here. I see the old huge gum trees that sit proudly on the hill.

I wonder who lived here before the white settlement. And I take this opportunity to acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the lands and waters on which I live and practice. These are the traditional lands of the Peramangk and Kaurna people. This land always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

I was raised on Gadigal land on a peninsula where the traditional owners were the Wallumedegal clan. Their name was derived from either the word for snapper fish – wallumai – combined with matta, meaning a place of water or after the spiny rush plant which grows prolifically in the area, whose seeds could be used in damper and whose leaves were used to weave bags. Their language was known as Darug.

These people possibly referred to the area as Moco Boula, meaning two waters, specifically the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers which lie on each side of the peninsula.

My ancestors on my father’s side came from Scotland specifically the area around Loch Fyne towards Inveraray. My mother’s ancestors came from the Scottish isle of Colonsay and were banished to Ireland because they were catholic.

I am very grateful to live in this peaceful land we now call Australia.

Love 🤍

🤍 love doesn’t just happen. The idea of cultivating love feels true for me.

🤍 I appreciate the way Brene Brown speaks to this idea of cultivating love when we allow our vulnerable and powerful selves to be seen and known…

🤍 Love is not something we give or get; it is something that we nurture and grow.

🤍 I’m looking for ways to deepen my relationships and cultivate more love this season.

🤍 Strengthening my boundaries curiously feels loving.

I feel calm when…

I feel calm when…

The lights are soft
The sounds are mellow
Waves lap gently
Light breeze on my skin
Early morning sun glistens
The moment I lay on my yoga mat
Gazing towards beautiful vistas
Picking roses mindfully
Creating an unplanned meal
Sensing fresh bedsheets
Hearing words of kindness
Listening to morning birdsong
Sensing chest rising and falling
Feet sinking into soft cool grass
Eyelids slowly close for rest.

Selfie!

Seriously I’m not a fan of selfies ! So you’ll see me in the raw, with garden in the background, squirming a little but hey! It’s all part of the challenge and when I’m with a group of people it’s super fun to capture a group selfie. How do you manage selfies?

I support…

I support the local seed collecting group, which is part of Biolink Morialta, LandcareSA.

I participate when I can and am keen to learn about the native vegetation so we can improve our land. In this way I feel I am supporting the planet. Doing a little bit locally. We will bring balance to our plot that has many introduced species. The food producers like fruit and nut trees in the orchard feel important too. We also have herbs and an expanding selection of vegetables.

However I am dedicated to supporting the landscape by reintroducing endemic plants that will feed the birds and wildlife (echidnas, snakes, koalas, kangaroos, lizards and millions of insects).

I have loved getting your know local enthusiasts, walking through the bush, collecting seeds, germinating them, caring for the seedlings and then when the time is right they will be set into the bush and nurtured until they are thriving.

Open Door

Growing up in suburban Sydney our front door was never locked. Well the bottom half was only to secure dogs or toddlers inside. But you could swing open the top of the stable style front door, call out, and someone (Mum) would say come on in.

I grew up in a large family that swelled with friends and neighbourhood kids around lunch time in the summer holidays. The front door was always a swinging to welcome you into our home.

It has been the same for me over the different houses I’ve lived in. If the front door is open - come on in 🤍🤍🤍

Interesting Fact

Work related mental health conditions are on the rise.

Protecting workers’ mental health is just as important as protecting their physical health.

Issues like work related stress, psychosocial hazards, bullying and inappropriate behaviours, anxiety and depression - do I are in the psychological injuries claims made via work places.

Looking after yourself, having good work / life boundaries and all the things we do to keep healthy, happy and love a balanced life are more and more important.

I am a work cover counselling provider so may be able to help you or someone you know who is claiming support through the work place.

Look after each other 🙏
