Berry and Collective Psychology is a youth focused psychology practice on Sydney's Northern Beaches. We work with children, adolescents, young adults and their families to improve wellbeing and treat mental health conditions. We are a multidisciplinary group of passionate mental health professionals who aim to bring warmth, acceptance, and hope to our interactions with all clients. Our team of clinicians has combined experience of over 100 years, and expertise in evidence based practice including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Schema Therapy. We work with a range of personal and mental health issues including anxiety, depression, peer relationships, bullying, family separation and change, self-esteem, and relationship difficulties. Treatment is planned around individual needs and goals, and we aim to empower our clients and enhance the strengths of the individual and their family. We welcome referrals from GPs under Mental Health Care Plans. This allows you to claim a rebate through Medicare which covers a large portion of the appointment cost. See your GP for a referral, or give us a all if you would like more information. We also accept the following referral types: Psychological Access Plus, NDIS, Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA), Victims Services, WorkCover NSW, and NSW Motor Accidents Scheme.

September 10th: World Su***de Prevention Day.

Today, let’s pause to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind each other that help is always available. Su***de is a complex public health issue, affecting over 700,000 people worldwide each year.

The 2024-2026 theme, “Changing the Narrative on Su***de”, encourages open conversations about suicidal thoughts and behaviours, helping to break down barriers and foster understanding.

Talking about su***de can be difficult, but speaking up helps break cycles of silence and stigma, connecting people to life-saving support.

Small acts – checking in, listening, or offering kindness – can also make a real difference.

Always remember, you are not alone.

Sometimes our pain whispers, sometimes it shouts. Either way, it signals what needs attention, care or change.

Pausing to listen, rather than ignoring or suppressing it, can guide us towards self-understanding, healing and growth.

Pain isn’t just something to endure – it’s information.
What might yours be telling you today?

There will be dark days,
when you feel alone
with your aching heart
but that doesn’t mean
you will always be.
The sun will always
peer through the clouds.
Let its light show you
the love you have forgotten.

The Dark Days Will Pass ~ Poem by Harpreet M. Dayal

Gunnen is the joy of seeing others thrive and genuinely celebrating their success, letting their happiness ripple into your own.

Such shared joy strengthens bonds, lifts moods, and reminds us that there’s enough good in the world for everyone. ✨

The Duchenne smile – named after 19th century French neurologist Guillaume Duchenne – is a genuine expression of happiness. It involves the spontaneous contraction of two muscles: the zygomatic major (lifting the mouth) and orbicularis oculi (crinkling the eyes). It's the kind of smile that shines through your eyes, radiating authenticity and warmth that’s almost impossible to fake.

So, it seems the old saying is true – the eyes never lie.

I believe the beating in our hearts
was put here to remind us
that even when we feel alone in the world,
a part of us marches on,
that even at our lowest
we carry something inside of us
that we can lean on and turn to,
that even when there is no one else,
we always have ourselves.

~ The Marching Heart by Beau Taplin

“It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect its successful outcome” – William James

This speaks to learned helplessness: if we doubt our abilities before we even start, we risk giving up before trying – and guarantee that success slips away.

Remember, believing in yourself is the first step in turning challenge into achievement. You can do it!
