We often say, “I’ll believe it when I see it”. But belief shapes perception – and sometimes, it’s what allows us to truly see.

Believing opens the door to discovery, sparking the curiosity and openness that help us to notice the magic woven through everyday life.

When we lean into possibility and dare to believe, we might just find what we were looking for all along. 🪄

“Lighthouses are endlessly suggestive signifiers of both human isolation and our ultimate connectedness to each other.” – Virginia Woolf

The lighthouse keeper, alone in her tower, projects light across the ocean to be received by passersby….and once illuminated, their presence shines back to her, and she too knows she is not alone.

“I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream” – Vincent Van Gogh

Sometimes, all we need is to look up at the starry sky and let its vastness remind us that the world is full of possibility, and nothing is truly hopeless.

If you want the moon,
do not hide from the night.
If you want a rose,
do not run from the thorns.
If you want love,
do not hide from yourself.

Often, when the rain starts falling, we rush to duck for cover. But how often do we truly feel the rain – with mindful presence?

The pitter-patter on rooftops, puddles splashing beneath boots, droplets resting on leaves, cool water on warm skin, and the earthy scent of renewal in the air.

Ever noticed a face in the clouds or a “lucky” number? That’s apophenia – the mind’s tendency to find meaning and patterns amongst life’s randomness.

Coined by Klaus Conrad (German psychiatrist, 1958), apophenia is part of what makes us human: our brains are wired to seek order in chaos.

Sometimes this sparks creativity and comfort, helping us make sense of the world.

“No amount of regretting can change the past, and no amount of worrying can change the future” – Roy T. Bennett

Getting stuck in “what was” or “what if” stops us from seeing and addressing “what is”.

Next time, free yourself by pausing, taking a deep breath, and bringing your attention back to the present moment.

We all need
a safe space
to rest our tired feet
and set down
our weary hearts.
We all need
a friend who
welcomes us in
and reminds us that
we don’t have
to be perfect
to belong.

In still moments, we smyster, wandering through the hidden gardens of our imagination. 🌿

In the spirit of World Mental Health Day (Oct 10th), let's honour these quiet spaces within us - reminders of the care, rest and compassion our minds deserve.
