Have you ever wondered why it can be so hard to go against the crowd, even when you feel inclined to do so?

Sometimes, we’re motivated to fulfil our need for belonging by “fitting in” and gaining social acceptance. Other times, when we’re unsure of which way to sway, we may adjust to match others and be “right”.

Conforming helps groups stay cohesive, but it can also lead us to ignore our own judgements. Remember to pause and reflect on your feelings, beliefs and values – they deserve a voice too!

“These mountains that you are carrying, you were only supposed to climb” – Najwa Zebian

Mountains are meant to challenge, not crush. Allow yourself to lighten your load and release what isn’t yours to hold.

The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them” – Thomas Merton, No Man Is An Island

Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.

~ “Do not ask your children to strive”, by William Martin

“And sometimes I have kept my feelings to myself because I could find no language to describe them in” – Jane Austen

Our emotions can be complex and hard to articulate. Practices like mindfulness, journaling and reflective discussion can help us notice, name and express our feelings – support self-understanding and emotion regulation.

“The Uncertainty Pledge: Whenever I feel the anxious, queasy energy of uncertainty and notice myself overplanning, overthinking and grasping for control, I place my hand on my heart and gently remind myself, 'Uncertainty is where possibility lives. Uncertainty is where freedom lives. Uncertainty is where hope lives.” – Nicola Jane Hobbs

When we learn to meet uncertainty with compassion, patience and curiosity, it becomes less of a threat – and more of an opening.

Pronoia invites us to notice the subtle ways life supports us and offers us goodness. By intentionally paying attention to what’s going right, we teach our minds to expect possibility rather than danger – a shift that can reshape how we move through the world.
